I look at the Chelsea squad and always think it’s the biggest bunch of rag tag misfits ever assembled. I’ve never seen such an uninspiring group of players on paper in my life. And yet, they seem to do alright. Might be more a reflection on how poor the league is than how capable they are.

The way Carrick took each game on its own merit in terms of his team selection in his last caretaker stint, it wouldn’t surprise me if we saw Sesko in for Amad & Heaven in for Martinez today. Guess it’ll be a case of how much emphasis he puts on combatting Arsenal’s set piece threat.

We can all be over analytical about players these days. “His legs have gone.” “He’s been good but we need someone more mobile.” But ultimately if you apply yourself properly, you will endear yourself to the supporters. I, like many other Reds, will look back on Casemiro’s time at the club fondly.

Also, the little shimmy by Mainoo! Pure class! Don’t want to jump on the lad but if Ugarte was playing a) he loses the ball and we’re in trouble, or b) Maguire doesn’t trust him to even play the pass & goes long.

The thing I love about this passage of play, & it’s something we haven’t done for years; it’s mostly 1 or 2 touches of the ball & then moved on! Such an underrated “tactic” but it really does set the tempo, create a sense of urgency & builds momentum.

Don’t know how long this has been there but it’s the first time I’ve noticed it today so guessing it’s recent. Lovely little bit of art on the White City gates.

The thing about this lot is, they’re not in the punditry game anymore. All the soundbites are from their podcasts. Where they need to draw people in to listen & engage. They’re not pundits anymore. They’re in the entertainment business. Like Goldbridge. Don’t take their soundbites seriously.

Even though Amorim already beat Brighton quite convincingly this season, if he was left to limp on after the falling out he’d had then there’s nothing more certain than us getting knocked out today. We still might with Fletcher, but I think it gives us a better chance of staying in the competition.

Less than ideal scenario today, playing a decent team without a manager in our last remaining knock out, no second chances cup competition this season. It could be literally anything today! But can’t wait for it!

I don’t think any other team gets so efficiently punished for the mistakes they make as we do. Admittedly, we do make a lot so could just be law of averages! But I genuinely think you make your own luck in sport. The better you are, the more lucky you are. We’re yet to earn our right to be lucky.

Happy for Sesko. Played well against Leeds apart from his finishing & it felt like he just needed 1 to go in to get going. Really struggled in the 1st half tonight & I worried he was going under. But kept making intelligent runs & earned his 2 goals, both great finishes as well.

Strange performance. Probably moved the ball too slowly but played well enough to win that game in terms of the chances we created. Just felt like we were way too soft in the challenge all night though and that cost us with that 2nd Burnley goal.

1 dilemma created by Amorim’s departure is Amad’s place in the team, assuming we go to 4 at the back. Mbeumo has right wing locked down & Amad 100% won’t play as a conventional right back. Not ideal but maybe left wing with Cunha dropping to 10 or as part of a midfield 3?

Near 24 hours since the news broke & on reflection, the Amorim era at United really was a strange one. Seemingly lots of good being done without any real evidence to back it up. Again, feels like the right man at the wrong time. 50 year old, more well travelled Amorim may have been ideal!

The one big take away from this mornings news is; there goes any idea I had about being productive in my first few days back in work after Christmas! Haven’t caught up with my podcasts following yesterday’s game yet and I’m now eagerly awaiting the emergency podcasts to land!

For me, Amorim is a good coach & has a lot about him. It looked like he was slowly getting there. I just think this job was way too big for him & he was learning it as he was going along. We can’t afford to have people learning their job as they go along, it’s happened too often post Fergie!

Well, well, bloody well! He’s clearly had a huge falling out with Wilcox based on his weird past couple of press conferences & the board obviously don’t like him airing his dirty laundry in public. Interesting to see the clubs next move. Interim & assess what’s available after the WC or act now?

I don’t think anyone played especially bad for us today, to be honest. Moved the ball well at times & looked tidy, just understandably lacking a bit of creativity & attacking intent. Mbeumo & Amad returning can’t happen soon enough!

Very odd game. Felt like 2 teams playing for a draw. They were more brave than us in the last 10 mins though. We should have pushed on after equalising but reverted to being cautious & hoping to nick a goal rather than force the issue.

The only saving grace is I’m down at the in laws in Southampton for a post Christmas visit so didn’t actually attend tonight.

Why move Dorgu after his performance last week?! Lammens was excellent & saved us even further embarrassment. Jack Fletcher, bless him, just looks massively out of his depth. This is no way on him & needs must at the moment but he looks way off it unfortunately.
