Pre tournament pizza is the best! What’s your favourite pre-fencing meal?

In a lot of my Roleplaying games I make speak with animals essentially free to cast on the grounds that most animals are dumb as heck and can’t tell the players anything useful.

The 6 7 meme is really symbolic of the cost of living crisis. Kids can’t afford 69 as the funny number anymore.

Painted a wood elf Wardancer. I’m not sure if I can call this oldhammer since model appeared at end of 4th edition Warhammer & continued until the end of 6th edition. But it was fun to paint.

Painted an oldhammer wood elf wardancer. Proper old school Warhammer. I got the same model as one of the first Warhammer miniatures back in the early 1990s (I’ll try and find the original for comparison). Painting this helped connect with my younger self, who would be amazed at who they became.

Half painted miniatures always look kinda odd to me, or at least mine do. I'll have some bits fully shaded and detailed, and then other bits are just primer, and the contrast looks really weird.

How often do you parry when you #fence with #rapier? I've been playing it a lot recently and I find that if I try to parry I just end up with tangled swords in a way that goes no where. Is there a way to make parries work?

Painted a Wood Elf mage. I feel I’m getting the hang of glow effects now. Also really like how the colours came out. This was one of my favourite Warhammer minis growing up, though I always loved elves. Something about a faction of androgynes or feminine characters appealed to me for some reason.

So I’ve been told that dipping fries in thick shake or soft serve is mostly an Australian thing. Is this true?

Painted a flying dwarf mini (still learning Age of Sigma lore). With her I was experimenting with slapchop, which I think came out pretty well.

Painted a Wood Elf Hero. This is the first fine cast miniature I’ve painted and I’m honestly happy with how they came out. As much as the 6th edition wood elves didn’t grab me as much as the oldhammer ones I do really like this model. Be a cool hero for Warhammer Quest or something.

Painted Aenur, the sword of twilight. Was really fun doing the highlights on the cloak, and doing a blue black different ways. Does make me wish there were more elf options for Mordheim though, like I feel elves get a bit neglected in Warhammer. I kinda want to cosplay as this character too…

Finished an Eldar Warlock. Really feeling good about my ability to paint blacks with proper highlights. Also getting better at edging highlights.

Competed in a teams #HEMA competition over the weekend. My team got gold in both the #rapier and #sabre.

Pre tournament Italian consumed. I have a tradition of eating Italian food before a fencing tournament. I don’t know why, but it’s what I do.

Just finished the old Alarielle, the Everqueen miniature. I really like painting old warhammer miniatures using newer tools like contrast or effect paints (even if the glow paint didn't work as well as I was hoping). There's something cool about taking old designs and recreating with new ideas.

How much is the difference between High Fantasy and Low Fantasy as genres the class of the protagonists/party members?

Finished Orion, king of the wood elves. Really enjoying painting oldhammer miniatures. It’s cool to see 5th edition warhammer brought to life with things contrast paints. Also hits the nostalgias really nicely since I always wanted big centrepiece models like this when I was young.

Completed the old Warhammer Quest Wardancer. If I get back into playing more than opportunistically I’ll probably play boxed games like Warhammer quest where I can put together and paint a variety of models, but not too many as I can’t handle an army’s worth of models.

I got this miniature as an impulse purchase a while back because something about a goth elf chick with a sabre spoke to me. Really happy with how my painting came out, especially with the highlighting the black different ways.

Wouldn’t the fact that doubles still happen under right of way #fencing, which explicitly punishes certain actions that lead to doubles, suggest that no rule set can eliminate doubles.

Call me a gamer because I'm dropping more slurs. Specifically #HEMA slurs, but I feel like this one could apply to most online history discourse.

Wake up babe, a new #HEMA slur dropped. This one probably has more venom in it because I do think there is an innate problem with traditionalism as a political ideology, not just with it's appearance in HEMA. Unlike the other slurs where I'm mostly just trying to understand a weird perspective.

Do you #larp? Have you ever crossed trained #fencing or #HEMA to get better at combat? What was the most useful advice you received?

Been adding more #fencing specific fitness to my week to try and up my lunge for tournament season. Mostly doing jump squats and sprints when I have the space. Really fun.

Something #HEMA does better than a lot of sports is cater to social players. Like most sports only put effort into producing Olympians, but with #HEMA it’s really normal that someone will fence three or four times a week and go to sword camps for no other reason than it’s fun.

It’s kind of amazing how good fencing all morning, eating a pub lunch then napping feels. It’s what evolution has built me for.

The problem with #HEMA is different HEMAists think it’s a different hobby. There’s: •Thinks HEMA is modern fencing but with historical weapons •Thinks HEMA is MMA but with weapons •Thinks HEMA is reenactment combat but with modern protective gear •Thinks HEMA is European kenjitsu

I am really hopeful that the new Warhammer Quest will let me use heroes from other Warhammer Quest games, mostly because I just got the Wood Elf hero from Cursed City and I'd like to play them in an Old World setting.
