This weekend, I finished my collection of pictures from Aero Gatineau-Ottawa 2025. I took pictures of the twilight display and statics, and will share some of my favourites from the show in this thread, starting with the Beech 3NM "Canadian Queen" departing the runway.

The Waterloo Warbirds CT-133 Silver Star "Mako Shark" launches from #YHM after the RCAF100 weekend at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. In my opinion one of the prettiest CT-133s out there!

Mike Terfehr taxis out his MiG-17F 1613 at Aero Gatineau-Ottawa 2025 as the sun sets. The setting sky illuminates the jet, while the forest in the background is deep in the shadows, resulting in a nice contrasting image.

A Finnish Air Force F/A-18C Hornet in some neat late afternoon lighting at the 2018 edition of the Royal International Air Tattoo. The nose of the jet is pointed almost directly at the sun, resulting in some dynamic shadows and highlights across the front and belly of the jet.

Royal Australian Navy P-8A Poseidon showing its weapons bay as part of an Australian Defence Force showcase at the Australian International Air Show. It won't be long before Canada begins to take delivery of these same jets, joining the rest of the Five Eyes in owning the type.

I have learned that yesterday was the final day of Danish F-16 operations, as the jets have now been retired after 46 years of service. Continuing the mission in its place will be the Danish F-35A. Pictured, the time I managed to see a Danish F-16AM on static at RIAT. This one is E-018.

Up close with Nanchang CJ-6 White 16, flown by Thin Air Adventures based in Abbotsford, BC. This picture was part of a photoshoot made possible via Aviation Photocrew in 2024, and took place over the forested mountains near Chilliwack, BC.

Chrono Aviation PC-12 C-GICR on the hot ramp at Aéroport exécutif Gatineau-Ottawa, after concluding a flying display at Aero Gatineau-Ottawa 2025. I can't think of many other PC-12s that come in this all black paint, but I like it!

Yesterday marked the 85th year since the Lancaster took flight for the first time at RAF Ringway. Pictured, the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum Avro Lancaster Mk. X painted as Lady Orchid makes a steep bank turn as part of the 2016 Quinte International Air Show display.

Did you know the C-17 Globemaster III can deploy its reverse thrusters in air? It can be used in this way for rapid descent, such as how this USAF C-17 based at Edwards AFB demonstrated in the 2022 Aerospace Valley Airshow.

#tmcbphoto2025top10aviation #HonourableMention: Snowbirds Tornado: Got to give a shoutout to the RCAF Snowbirds and their tornado formation this year. Performed at many airshows, they even did so in twilight demonstrations, like this one beautifully executed at Aero Gatineau-Ottawa.

#tmcbphoto2025top10aviation #2: E-2D Hawkeye: The World Famous VAW-123 Screwtops get full marks for having what must be the prettiest E-2D Hawkeye today, and they wanted to show it off at Airshow London this year. This specific aircraft is the only one of theirs that has the spiral top.

#tmcbphoto2025top10aviation #3: MV-22 Osprey: Sometimes it is just the lighting that makes the moment. That was the case at Airshow London's Twilight Display, where the MV-22 Osprey had the perfect blend of golden hour and sunset light.

#tmcbphoto2025top10aviation #4: CP-140 Aurora: If you were near me in Toronto, you knew that I was hyped for the Aurora demo. First one at the CIAS since 2012, and first time I've seen an Aurora demo since 2018! The crew came ready to fly, starting with a brilliant weapons bay door pass.

#tmcbphoto2025top10aviation #5: F-15C Sandman: Tail number 78-0543 was based at the 173rd Fighter Wing in Kingsley Field, Oregon. While this unit had wowed attendees at Airshow London the last couple years, this year would be their final hoorah as the F-15Cs are retired from service.

#tmcbphoto2025top10aviation #7: AN-124 Ruslan: The largest plane of this series, there was a small window in Spring of this year where an Antonov Airlines AN-124 Ruslan made its way to Toronto. While I was not able to catch its arrival, I was able to make a quick stop to catch its departure.

#tmcbphoto2025top10aviation #8: RCAF CC-295 Kingfisher: I was able to get another glimpse of the CC-295 this year in Ottawa, replacing the plane intended to replace the now retired CC-115 Buffalo. I positioned myself underneath its flight path to get an overhead angle. Do you like how it turned out?

#tmcbphoto2025top10aviation #9: C-2A Greyhound: The first time I saw a Greyhound was Airshow London 2017, as a static display aircraft. I never saw it in the air, as it arrived before I did. I was getting ready to accept that I would not see one in the air before they retired.

Turns out that's what Chrono Aviation did at Aero Gatineau-Ottawa this year.

#tmcbphoto2025top10birds #1 Pileated Woodpeckers: The Official Bird of Gatineau, QC! I discovered this family while out on a trail, and after a couple weeks in the area finally got an opportunity to get the two young woodpeckers and a male adult on the tree, learning how to peck. Worth the wait?

I had to give a shout out to this Chipping Sparrow who fed its young in front of me in early morning light.

#tmcbphoto2025top10birds #2 Snowy Owl: After several years of drawing up blanks, 2025 featured the return of the Snowy Owl to the GTA. They are seen in areas that represent the tundra that they're found in most times of the year, and it was one such place that this female was spotted. Welcome back!

#tmcbphoto2025top10birds #3 Hermit Thrush: More often heard than seen, the song from Hermit Thrushes are one of those flute-like tunes that fills a mature forest. This particular Thrush was surprisingly not shy, as I was able to walk almost underneath it on the side of a trail to get this shot.

#tmcbphoto2025top10birds #4 Yellow-breasted Chat: Back in 2019, this was one of the first "rare" warblers I ever came across, but due to their skulky nature, I never got more than a blurry picture in the dogwood thickets. 6 years later, I did much better in my second time seeing one!

#tmcbphoto2025top10birds #5 Broad-winged Hawk: I'm used to seeing these soaring in stratospheric altitudes as they migrate down by the hundreds in September, so I was shocked to finally see one perched out in the open this summer. They are the smallest of the Buteo class raptors in Ontario.

#tmcbphoto2025top10birds #6 Razorbill: Discovered in the Fall at one of Toronto's newest parks, Razorbills are more commonly found in the Atlantic Ocean. This one was likely blown in from a distant storm. Did you know? Razorbills are the closest surviving relative to the extinct Great Auk.

#tmcbphoto2025top10birds #7 Blue-headed Vireo: These birds prefer to be deep in branches amongst the mid-canopy of forests, so I was pleasantly surprised in the fall when this bird appeared very close to me and started belting out a tune. It was also the first time I managed to spot one in the fall!

#tmcbphoto2025top10birds #8 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker: Another first for me this year was spotting a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker nest, found in a tree hole. I visited on several different days hoping to get a good view of the young, but never got more than a beak. Can you see it?

#tmcbphoto2025top10birds #9 Baby Black-capped Chickadee: This year was the first time I have seen an immature Black-capped Chickadee in the wild, as I was far enough north into their breeding ground to see one. Pictured is one begging for food from a nearby parent.

#tmcbphoto2025top10birds #10: Eastern Phoebe: In Ontario, these are some of the first flycatchers to leave last to arrive. In the forest, they are a man's best friend and proficient mosquito eater. They perch, spot an insect, launch out to snatch it in flight before returning to the same perch.

I was doing some bird editing, so here's a couple takes of some popular winter birds, the Pine Grosbeak and the Bohemian Waxwing - in Ontario, they're both usually birds of the Boreal Forest, but move south in bad crop years. Both love ornamental trees like crabapples, which is how I found these!

It's #fighterfriday and this time I have two different jets to share! It's a hot topic right now, but Canada's currently reviewing its purchase of F-35s and SAAB is making a second pitch for the JAS-39 Gripen E. Which do you like better?

Continuing on with posting heavies, here's a picture of that time the USAF B-52H Stratofortress 60-0025 made a couple passes over the scenic eucalyptus trees near Australian International Air Show at Avalon Airport.

#throwbackthursday to when a USAF C-5M from Dover AFB spiraled through the cloud layer over Airshow London to start some pattern work on arrival! The spiral made for some moody images, such as this one.

It's #warbirdwednesday! Here is Louis Horschel's FG-1D Corsair taking off at dusk. This was one of the first times I had seen a twilight warbird display at Aero Gatineau-Ottawa 2025.

Air Tindi Dash 7 on final approach to Downsview Airport, Toronto in June of 2022, in what would be the last time a Dash 7 visits CYZD airport before it eventually permanently closed. The Dash 7 is capable of operating on gravel air strips of just 1,500 feet with a full payload.
