Thank you to our staff who braved last week's weather to care for our campus and animals! Individuals continued caring for the animals as other teams worked to clear pathways, assess damage and prepare for guests to return. Many of the fallen branches will be used as browse for our animals.

Our spring baby boom continues! 🧡 Parents Howard and Fern welcomed a female bongo calf on May 3. Because Eastern bongos are Critically Endangered, every birth is an important step for the future of the species, and we’re thrilled to celebrate this special arrival.

We welcomed two cute new members to our Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep herd! Moms Violet and Amber gave birth one day apart earlier this week, with both moms welcoming their lambs right on Sheep Mountain. When Amber went into labor on Saturday, Violet even brought her baby down to keep her company.

World Migratory Bird Day is May 9 and this year’s theme, “Every Bird Counts – Your Observation Matters!,” highlights the important role we all play in protecting birds and their habitats. Panya and Jasiri have officially joined our reticulated giraffe herd! 🦒 Jasiri has returned after a temporary stay at CMZoo and moved with Panya, who also arrived on a breeding recommendation. Thorn, born at DZCA, has moved to CMZoo. We're happy to support giraffe conservation with these moves!

Late this afternoon, DZCA temporarily paused operations after receiving a threatening phone call. After coordinating with Denver Police and completing an investigation, the Zoo was determined to be safe for continued operations. We remain open this evening for Glowing Wild.

April 28 was #SaveTheFrogsDay! 🐸 Dr. Jimmy Johnson, Senior Director of Wildlife Health and Conservation, and Brian Aucone, Chief Conservation Officer, were recently in Peru working alongside our Latin America conservation partners to monitor the Lake Titicaca water frog and the Lake Junín frog.

Carter, one of our golf carts, visited the Animal Hospital for a routine exam including wheel/oil work and an engineoscopy. Carter works hard every day helping our Veterinary team transport animals and supplies across the Zoo, so we want to be sure he's running at his very best. 🚘🔧 #AprilFoolsDay

We're thrilled to welcome two new male alpacas! While they don't have names yet, they're already making quite the impression. As our llamas get older and as the alpacas continue to acclimate, these two will step into ambassador roles like going on walks and interacting with guests.
