1/4 One of the auntie’s Whānau women in abusive rship. It’s been a yr but he indicated v early on that he was abusive. She messages me that he smashed her phone, the 2nd one. She comes to see me, we talk 2 hrs.

1/4 Trauma stays in the body. This morning she messages to ask me to take her to the medical clinic. She has been super anxious for a while. Overwhelmed. Tried all her strategies. Nothing works. Can’t breathe. Nausea. Dizziness. She’s scared. Thinks she will die.

I haven’t seen her in person for over a year. Major depression. Anxiety. CPTSD kicking her arse. A lot of kids, both hers and whangaied. An older teen who externalises his pain and anger in harmful ways. But since last yr she’s been seeing an ACC accredited therapist. And that is huge.

1/3 Today Arena Williams, the MP for Manurewa (Labour) came with her communications advisor Charlotte to my house to talk about the whānau women’s concerns (which they had fed back to me), and to ask my thoughts on everything that’s going on under this government.

Took Iggy to visit Annette today. In her v own house. First time since she left the violence 8 yrs ago that’s she’s in her own place. Emergency and transitional housing all this time. Overjoyed for her.

She’s starting ACC sensitive claims therapy tomorrow. She’s terrified that the Therapist won’t believe her. It takes her so much to open up to anyone who’s not me or her sons. I reassure her that she will be believed. She cries. What if they don’t? she says.

We seem to be in a place in the world right now w big bad things happening all at the same time. I offer a small win. None of the women did well academically, too much trauma, a lot of them told they’re “dumb”. Those once critics proved wrong by genetics. Fonua. Yr 9 Class president.

A snapshot. What it looks like when ppl like Jago wreak their havoc. A men’s group. They’re telling their truth. 97% have been SAed. All of them have been in prison. All of them are recovering addicts. None of them have yet found their peace.

In the last 30 yrs, I have not had had many positive interactions with OT. This morning was different. Why? Because the meeting was with two lovely humans who work under OT in capacity as kairāranga ā whanau. And as per, anything that comes from a te ao Māori perspective is what works best.

1/2 This morning I was on my regular scheduled video call with one of the women and we were talking about her 14 yr old daughters (who o used to teach so I know her well) lack of self confidence and how she was focusing on her healing, as she has with her older girls.

I met Kiri when she was running the Manurewa Womens refuge. Would have been about 7-8 years ago I think. Her circs changed and now she’s a vital part of not only the aunties whānau but also the entire shebang. She pops in all the time. Also, she’s Iggy’s favourite person in the whole world.

I’m doing a fb next week about the whānau kids achievements. I know Lana has shared the vid on Twitter of her girls doing a haka for their sister. I am fiercely proud of that child. I have been there with her at some shit points in these last yrs. She has come so far.
