Lots of Turnstones about in groups and singly plus several sitting out on the rocks, all in winter plumage now despite the warm weather.

Quick visit to Sheringham this morning, lots of sunshine, like a spring day. Herring Gull just testing the water and clear view out to sea but very few birds passing through. The breakwater was not having to work too hard today.

Kestrel visiting the garden early this morning, its been around for a few days sitting on the chimney stack but the tree is higher and provides a better vantage point. Several Goldfinches were in the next tree and seemingly unbothered by the Kestrel. Holly berries looking good.

A pair of Gadwall on the lake at Felbrigg NT, the male in the foreground with the female in the background. 10 Mute Swans on the lake, one bathing. Still a few Common Darters about, this one enjoying the late autumn sunshine. A Black Redstart was checking out the stonework.

Lest We Forget

Visit to nearby nature reserve a few days ago and came across an Egyptian Goose showing off its white wing bar and a Greylag Goose, a pale grey bird with pink legs and an orange bill. Berries on the Guelder-rose looking succulent and a Herb Robert was flowering in the hedgerow.

Pleased to get a few pictures of a very obliging Kingfisher this week, colours are absolutely stunning. We make audio recordings of our garden birds and Kingfisher was a regular suggested call. Disregarded it until one day, returning from a walk, one flashed past the front door.

Crepuscular rays (light rays passing through clouds) lighting up a distant valley in Nevada earlier this year.

Autumn has definitely arrived, the woodland path is carpeted in fallen leaves with only a few remaining on the trees. Despite that there are still a lot of flowers about including this dandelion and in the garden mesembryanthemum are still putting on a show.

Great Tit in search of food in a Hawthorn bush. Selection of text books that I refer to when trying to identify wildlife. I also use Merlin for bird song and Obsldentify for plants and other wildlife but a word of caution - they are not infallible (like me)!!

Birds visiting the garden early this morning.

Despite today being dull and grey there are still a few flowers blooming to brighten the day - Cyclamen, Knapweed, Bellflower and Hebe. Pink and Blue take your pick.

Came across this Candlesnuff fungi growing on a pruning from the apple tree last year, the pruning had been lying in the long grass of the wildflower meadow. Blackening Waxcap growing in the garden lawn and a Carrion Crow just looking on.

Walk along a country lane and the sun is shining. Still a few flowers about including Yarrow and Toadflax.

Felbrigg Hall with a display of pumpkins by the front door. The kitchen currently has an exhibit of several pear varieties. Lake is now clear of the algal growth that has plagued it all year and is now home to a family of Mute Swans and several species of duck.

Walk to Felbrigg this morning for the Cattle Egret as they count towards a Club Green Birding Award, need 125 bird species 'walking from home' now have 124. Several Jays about and this one was hiding in the Oak tree. Teal now returning to the water meadow which is now quite full.

Several Meadow Pipits in the meadow at Felbrigg NT today. One was quite easy to see as it was standing on top of trampled grass, the other was moving through grass next to the fence line and a little more difficult to pick out.

A few picture from Felbrigg NT a couple of days ago. Common Darter, one of two resting in the late autumn sunshine. Mute Swan on the lake which is now clear of the algal growth that has been present all summer. Still several Hare Bells in flower in the meadow.

Visit to Felbrigg NT this morning produced a few fungi.

Walk along local lane yesterday and spotted a Red Kite being harassed by a Carrion Crow. The crow eventually gave up on its pursuit but the kite flew over me and I took these pictures. A Greenfinch was hiding in the hedgerow and a Yellowhammer flew to the top of an Oak tree.

Watched this Jay collecting acorns this morning, such a colourful bird. It eventually flew off only to return a few minutes later to collect more acorns. Managed to capture the Teasel head against a dark background and making the sharp spines on the stem really stand out.

One of several self-seeded Hart's-tongue Ferns growing in the garden wild patch. A Yellow Club fungus has appeared on the garden path of the first time. Brightly coloured hips on the Dog Rose Rose and still a few roses flowering despite the chill in the air.

Found an adult and juvenile Newt today whist moving equipment - relocated them to a place of safety.

A gift of flowers - gorgeous colour.

Shaggy Inkcap found in the garden on Saturday (1st Pic). The two other pics were taken today (Sunday) and show how quickly they grow.

Lots of wasps visiting the garden Ivy but most of the flowers have gone over, but caught this wasp resting on a nearby Hawthorn leaf. Sun appeared and this Great Tit took advantage of its warmth. Only seen a couple of Fly Agaric this year and most have been damaged like this one.

Found a fallen tree with moss instead of bark growing along its surface, a large group of fungi was also taking advantage of a food source. Another group of fungi hiding amongst the grass. A hollowed out tree stump providing a home for moss and a fern.

Throughout the summer the only Ladybirds found in the garden have been seven spot until this weekend when moving a pile of timber. Now have to identify each species.

Spotted this solitary Pink-footed Goose on a local field, normally only see them flying overhead locally. There were also 10 Common Gulls scattered across the same field.

Small group of Hare Bell blowing in the wind and several healthy looking Black Horehound growing on the roadside verge.

Just a few pics - masses of acorns in the garden and the beech branch dividing the wild patch from our path has produced Dead Mans Fingers. Bellflower has started to flower again adding a splash of colour and a distant Meadow Pipit perched in a dead at Felbrigg NT yesterday.
