This week has been incredibly heavy for all of us. I wanted to share some thoughts, reflections, and actions we’re taking to stand up to this unprecedented incursion into our city. Please know you are not alone. We are fighting back.

I am heartbroken. Renee Nicole Good should still be alive.  I urge everyone to use caution as you express your right to protest this horrific action by federal law enforcement. These agents are unprepared for this job, and you should not put yourself in harm’s way because of their lack of training.

I am closely monitoring the situation in Minneapolis. My heart is broken for the victim, their family, and our community as a whole. I join Mayor Frey in demanding that ICE leave our cities immediately before they cause any further harm.

Truly an inspiration to us all, Melissa’s legacy is defined by her immense heart and her dedication to others. She led with both wisdom and kindness. To have worked with her was a gift, and to have known her as a friend was an honor. We carry her memory with us, though we miss her dearly every day.

I was honored to stand in solidarity with our Somali community. It’s crucial that we condemn the hateful & divisive language that has targeted the Somali community. They have no place in our society. We must make our collective voices of inclusion louder & clearer than the voices of division.

Trump is once again weaponizing the federal government to attack communities that are central to our city’s identity. I will not allow Saint Paul to be used to indiscriminately advance his divisive and hateful agenda against the immigrant community under the guise of legal proceedings.

This year holds special significance as we mark the 50th anniversary of Hmong people in the U.S. Together, we reflect on our journey—a journey filled with resilience, hope, & unwavering strength.

I’m deeply concerned about yesterday’s East Side law‑enforcement action & stand with Mayor Melvin Carter in calling for a full review of bodycam footage. We need to reinforce for our community the best way to show up & hold law enforcement at all levels accountable. Our community deserves better.
