I’ve heard he was working on a new record with Raphael Saadiq, a team-up which by itself is as tantalizing and poignant as his entire career has been. Just mind-boggling, genre-stretching talent.

Like a lot of youthful bohemians I tried to read Slouching Towards Bethlehem in high school with the same cold eye that Didion trained on her subjects — but the mystery, wonder and wildness of California always seeped through. And maybe that’s what she intended.

Paul Weiss and Columbia are taking exactly the wrong actions in acceding to Trump, and they are among the entities most well-positioned to fight back. These are legacy-shaming decisions by the leadership of both, and those far less powerful will now, and surely in short order, pay the price.
