Fueled by food and fed by compassion, the North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry held its 44th Annual Thanksgiving Service ahead of the holiday, in partnership with the First Christian Church, our Office, and other community organizations.

Happy Thanksgiving, CD4! In the spirit of giving, we joined Big Sunday at their 14th Annual Thanksgiving Stuffing Event, hosted by Radford Studios.

Our office has been working steadily to support our communities through the holiday season. That’s why we partnered with She Is Hope, a local nonprofit uplifting single mothers and their families, for another Thanksgiving turkey giveaway.

This weekend, we partnered with MTO Shahmagsoudi and the Child Development Institute to kick off the season of giving, distributing over 100 family turkey meals to our community in the Valley!

This Sunday marked World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims – a “day” adopted by the UN in 2005 that is now commemorated globally.

This week, joined by her friends and colleagues, we adjourned Council in memory of a true Angeleno — Melanie Winter. Melanie passed away last month after a battle with lung cancer, leaving behind a hole as wide as the river she loved so dearly.

Today, we stood up as a Council to say ‘our people are our City.’ In a historic vote, the LA City Council moved to amend the City’s Rent Stabilization Ordinance (RSO) for the first time in *40 years*— significantly decreasing the burden on renters to meet the economic realities of our time.

Today, we honor the lives and legacies of our veterans. Thank you to all who have bravely served, and to all the families that have sacrificed for our country.

Celebrating P-22 Day with a special announcement!  This year marked the 10th annual P-22 Day Festival, and in loving memory of our beloved mountain lion, we took the opportunity to announce our artist selection for the permanent P-22 memorial sculpture!

If there’s one thing everyone in LA can agree on, it’s that the rent is too high.  While we've updated some policies, the City of Los Angeles has not updated the actual formula that caps rent increases since the Rent Stabilization Ordinance was created over 40 years ago.

Today we celebrate another historic @dodgers win! My son, Karna, and I joined in the festivities at Dodger Stadium. As a baseball player himself — a proud Sherman Oaks Little Leaguer! — he was so excited to see some of his idols (and now back-to-back World Series winners)!

Today, Councilmember Nithya Raman announced her office will be donating $25,000 from Council District 4 discretionary funds to the North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry ahead of the expected cut off of federal food assistance on November 1st.

Happy Halloween, CD4! Last weekend, we joined over 200 friends and neighbors for an afternoon of spooky good fun at the 3rd Annual Encino Village Halloween Block Party!

Beginning Saturday, 42 million Americans — and 5.5 million Californians — are expected to lose federal food assistance benefits through SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, as the federal shutdown continues into its second month.

Celebrate Halloween safely on these Trick-Or-Treating Safe Streets! 👻🍭🍬 Our office, in partnership with LADOT, has coordinated three neighborhood street closures on Friday, October 31st from 5PM - 9PM to ensure safe trick-or-treating for the whole community!

We were thrilled to join LAFD Station 78 in Studio City at their second annual Pancake Breakfast earlier this month, which is quickly becoming a beloved tradition for local neighbors!

This weekend, we held our second Fall Concert in the Park— welcoming the community to the grassy field of VNSO park to enjoy free music, arts & crafts, and a gorgeous fall day!

This morning, along with Congresswoman Laura Friedman, leadership from LADOT and BSS, and members of the community, we celebrated the completion of a new signalized crosswalk at Franklin Avenue and Harvard Boulevard in Los Feliz.

As the first South Asian ever elected to City Council, and as a proud Indian-American, it fills me with so much joy to be able to hold space for people celebrating Diwali across the City.

Diwali – the Hindu festival of lights – is a celebration with multiple meanings. But across regions and Hindu narratives, Diwali symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.

Are you an artist or creative who lives or works in CD4? Or an arts organization based in the district? The City wants to fund your work! Our office has partnered with the Department of Cultural Affairs on a grant opportunity for artists and arts organizations headquartered in Council District 4.

Emergency readiness is an ongoing effort, and my office is working hand in hand with our first responders to ensure Los Angeles—and Council District 4—is prepared for fire and storm events.

Today, we recognize Indigenous Peoples' Day. This day serves as a reminder of the rich history and enduring presence of the Indigenous communities who have shaped the land long before our city was established.

Last year, for the first time in City history, we officially proclaimed October 11th as National Coming Out Day in the City of Los Angeles! This year, we keep that celebration going— in Council District 4 and beyond!

LA must be a city where, whenever you call for help, someone shows up, and it’s the right person to respond to your issue.

In June, I introduced a motion to ensure that people held in LAPD custody continue to receive quality medical care. On Tuesday, the City Council took the final step to prevent the proposed closure of two of the City’s three medical clinics located at LAPD detention facilities.

While we’ve taken considerable action to protect tenants, passing some of the strongest tenant protections since the Rent Stabilization Ordinance went into effect nearly 40 years ago, it’s fair to say that Los Angeles has changed dramatically in that time. What hasn’t?
