A reminder that the autumn edition of the West Midlands All-Day Birdwatch will be on the traditional date of the first Saturday in September (6th). Here's hoping for a good day and lots of sites (new and old) to be participating

Ok everyone is there any help with this one out there, I think this large ( c.2 cm ) and striking insect could be a Tenthredo but I admit I am struggling so any ID suggestions appreciated. Seen in North Staffs at the weekend

Wanna play chicken? Discovered this exciting public footpath route, crossing the busy A500. And did our intrepid Senior Wildlife Explorer dart across four lanes of mostly 70mph traffic in the few moments when a brief lull might make this possible…?

A thread on quite how incredible the Texel Spectacled Eider record is, given that almost the entire world population (~250K) winters together around 62°00'N, 173°00'W in polynyas - gaps in the sea ice in the Bering Sea, like the ones below👇 🧵#Ornithology 1/
