People often think a Makerspace is all about electronics, but at the our space, we also make things with fabric! Our members sew, knit and experiment with textiles using shared materials. We just added a great knitting guide from a book exchange, a perfect match for our hands-on library.

Right on time for Valentine's Day, we've hung up a new borrowed fairy light chain for a little test run. Now there are no more excuses not to have your next tinkering date at the Maker Lab: sipping a Spezi in a cozy corner while the romance slowly grows by itself inside the 3D printer.

One of our members really wants to explore stained glass art. She requested a glass grinder in the plenum to support her work. Her first projects are really amazing – check Hannah's account on Instagram or YouTube ("Hannah Rutledge Art"). She has also made a really nice how-to video.

Work safety is always an important topic in a workshop, but especially in an open workshop with many non-professionals. We are happy about a motivated member improving things practically, from better safety goggles, new table saw push blocks, info material and safety course.

The Energy for Ukraine team uses our workshop to recycle battery cells into rugged powerbanks for Ukraine's unstable power regions. Custom 3D prints with special filament, USB lights and LED displays make them tech highlights. Great for our members' battery recycling interests. energyforukraine.de

In our living room our flipper machine is the favorite – endless gaming fun and fascinating tech with all its cables, sensors, lights and mechanics. When a button broke and the controls failed a small group of our members fully repaired it. A great chance for some hands-on insights!

Recently, we saw a great example of solid repairability in action. Workshop vac "Saugewesen" cracked but fixed easily – parts from manufacturer, even for old gear, at fair price. Member repaired solo. Like new! Great repairability win.

Workshops usually aren't great places for pets – it's often loud, dangerous and not everyone is a fan. But sometimes leaving them alone at home isn't an option. Still, this little fluff seems to actually enjoy chilling in his tiny cave, even with all the activity around! #hackerspace #makerspace

The 39th Chaos Communication Congress (39C3) is still underway in Hamburg, packed with talks and discoveries. Some Munich Maker Lab members and friends from clubs like muCCC are onsite, while a decentralized streaming session runs in our lab via media.ccc.de – perfect for diving into topics together

Our CO₂ laser cutter just had maintenance – mirrors cleaned, optical parts recalibrated. More powerful output again, especially good for thicker material. Probably time to replace the mirrors soon. Just not sure when "steak" made it onto our material cheat sheet. #MunichMakerLab #MuMaLab

Our big lasercutter is back in action – now with a brand new chiller. The new unit runs much quieter than the old one, and we hope it will last just as long. During the repair session, we got a rare look inside the machine and could check out the impressive laser tube – the real heart of our setup.

Laser cutter is down: cooling broke, motor capacitor blew, pump's worn out, with some parts from 1998. We skipped repairs – a new chiller's coming soon for better efficiency and a longer-lasting laser. But never forget: The ways of the laser are mysterious. ;-)

A forgotten custom power supply project based on the RD6006 was rediscovered during our recent cleanup. One of our members took up the challenge and transformed the leftover parts into a functional, mobile PSU for the space, reusing available materials and 3D printing needed components.

As a kid, there were things we always wanted but could never have. Now, we don't even have to buy them – we can just 3D print them! <3 In this episode: a box of Poké Balls for a Pokémon-themed hackathon. Let the hunt begin!

In our Maker Lab, the kitchen is an essential part of our community culture – right now, we are lucky to have a member who is motivated to prepare meals for larger groups, which is well received by the Maker team. Our self-grown tomatoes from the yard have also been put to use.

A member recently brought some interesting kids' toys to the lab. These are the kinds of serious real-world challenges we enjoy hacking during our open Thursdays. With enough patience, we're hoping to see a working light controller made from these toys in the near future.

Colorful fairy lights are now permanently installed in the Munich Maker Lab yard – they’re automated with our Home Assistant and switch on at sunset when the space is open. The lights make our yard more visible and inviting for visitors in the evening.

We’ve received a whole box of UV-C lamps, fittings, and power supplies. Since we currently have no use for them, we’d like to pass them on to other makers in exchange for a small donation. We’d love to see these parts put to use in another maker project!

Maker Lab Rule: if someone asks for “just a helping hand for 2 minutes”… run! Yesterday our 3D printer twins, Lambu and Rambu, acted up – and one member, already in full motorcycle gear. Two minutes became twenty fixing the clogged nozzle. At least safety was 100%… always good with Rambu around. ;-)

A new member recently finished building a fighting game controller – supported by our laser cutter for precise cuts in wood, acrylic, and for the USB mount. LEDs were also added to every button and honestly, the tidy cabling is the kind of thing that warms your heart just by looking at it.

A member recently printed many parts in the Munich Maker Lab to build an open-source telescope – the results are truly impressive, and the telescope itself is fascinating to see.

We’re building a demo wall from old circuit boards and gadgets – a bit of "Deutsches Museum" flair for our lab. Got quirky tech relics? Ping us here – they might join the wall. And as it grows, we’ll bring it to life with lights and interactivity!

After our garden yard update, the sun has done its best – the plants have grown tall, and it's already harvest time. Now our maker projects are supported by fresh cucumber snacks, with some special tomatoes hopefully coming soon.

Hot weekend in Munich – while most people relaxed by the water, the Maker Lab was alive with activity. Cars were repaired, woodworking projects took shape, the laser was cutting, and all the 3D printers ran non-stop.

Exciting DIY: One of our members is 3D‑printing colorful scale‑like pieces directly onto fabric. They’re using multicolor PLA and lightweight netting that’s integrated during the print – so the fabric and plastic become one. A bit of leather glued on the back gives the final piece a nice, soft feel.

Big milestone for our electronics lab! Thanks to donations, our reorganized and clearly labeled parts collection now makes it easy to find what you need. It’s now simpler to tackle new projects, share parts, and keep things tidy.

Two of our members have just finished upgrading our "Demo Shelf of Things"! It's a mini showroom showcasing a lot of cool things you can create with our makerspace – featuring some nice light effects and funny sounds.

Several of our members took advantage of the vibrant DIY decorations at our last event to capture some beautiful, colorful photographs.

Our simple laser-cut donation box was falling apart, so we started fixing it – and got inspired. We added lights, a sensor, and fun sound and light effects that react to donations. After a few evenings of work, it’s now an interactive donation cube!

Many projects happen in our space, often improving the workshop. Simple solutions are often best. We got new drill bit sets, and a member 3D-printed and wall-mounted two sturdy holders. This makes accessing the bits much easier. :-)

Unexpected challenges can lead to improvements. Recently, a member was locked out when leftover wood triggered the door’s safety mechanism. In response, members added a protective barrier, reorganized wood storage, and created a convenient broom-hanging spot.

Keeping our community workshop organized takes effort, so we host a monthly “Rama dama” cleanup day. This time, many joined in – despite the heat – and with pizza and good company, it felt more like a holiday than work.

Our oven-stove combination recently stopped working, but we were fortunate to receive a secondhand replacement. It arrived in need of some cleaning, and one of our members took on the task—using some inventive tools to get the job done. #lifehacks #hackerspace #thereifixedit #itsnotstupidifitworks

We recently added a new feature to our Makerlab Yard —a gate inspired by Japanese Torii architecture, kindly given to us by a neighbor. After a bit of restoration and a fresh coat of bright red paint, it now serves as a decorative element in our outdoor area.

Our old garden beds needed an upgrade, so we replaced and expanded them with new ones and added fresh lights. Luckily, our neighbors had some extra beds to give away, making it even easier! Stay tuned for the final result!

We’ve had our mini CNC mill for a bit—it’s a practical, compact workshop tool. It fits in a box with accessories, making storage easy and dust contained. Despite its size, it delivers strong results thanks to a member’s optimizations, and it’s great for learning CNC basics.

In our recent workshop, we made small, fun creatures from old electronic parts. People of all ages took part and enjoyed getting creative with the materials. We were happy to see so much interest and are looking forward to running more workshops like this soon!
