Bill Schang taught English at Ripon for 41 years and served as VP and dean of faculty from 2002-06. His teaching earned him the Bumby Severy Award (x4); Senior Class Award (x4); and Underkofler Award. The William Schang Liberal Arts Scholarship was established in his honor. #RiponCollege175

Chosen from a field of 400 suggestions, it is revealed April 27, 1994, that the new athletic nickname for Ripon College will be the Red Hawks, marking a departure from the Redmen, which had been used since the 1920s. The Wehr Learning Resource Center, a vast extension on the west end of Lane Library, was dedicated on this day in 1975. Today, it houses the Heinz Franzen Learning Center which combines tutoring and academic support services and features six collaborative study rooms.  #RiponCollege175

Liz “Betty” Langer Quackenboss ’57 became the first woman elected as president of the Ripon College student council (now called student senate). She defeated her opponent, Bob Ainsworth ’57, by a mere 14 ballots in an election in which 80% of students voted.  #RiponCollege175

Sheboygan County Circuit Court Judge Natasha Torry ’98 knew from a young age she wanted to help people, particularly children. In addition to her role as judge, she is active as a board member for both the Boys & Girls Club of Sheboygan County and the Kohler Arts Center. #RiponCollege175
