While Japan had its own separate fox lore, many important myths were imported from China/India which involved jackals. Japan did not have jackals, so these were replaced with foxes

LP Ive mentioned before if you want to enhance your experience of many Japanese games, you should get a beginner's dose of Shinto mythology. I think many people know about yokai monsters but they may not know of important gods and their messengers. Once you know youll see it pop up everywhere

Sonic Racing Crossworlds is cool btw. Pretty fun kart racer even if you aren't a Sonic fan and the maps are just really amazing.

LP Its interesting since the game itself was originally developed during and delayed by covid. The original featured a depiction of a god that protected against disease but in Vengeance they incorporated Amabie, a monster with an image that was shared irl to help ward against covid.

LP I will say some people who know of the famous legend, or only know the chaotic or heroic aspects of the Susanoo myth might wonder why such a depiction was chosen. But people go to Susanoo shrines for love, marriage, warding off disease these days. When you think of that it might make more sense.

I wonder if there are outsiders (that dont know Shinto mythology) who wonder why there's a fascination with Nahobino and why people might make shrines incorporating the character from SMTV. I think the character is cool even outside of mythology, but he's a unique depiction of that Shinto god imo.

LP the artist for Digital Devil Survivor who did art for Cyber Sleuth is still involved in this if going by designs, so at this point, if you're a fan of SMT and any of its spin-offs, the new Digimon game will feel right at home

I know I've seen people joking about it around here but the feel of the story, vibe and gameplay for Digimon Time Stranger really makes it a gateway into Shin Megami Tensei doesn't it. It might be a better "baby's first SMT" spinoff than Soul Hackers 2 ever was lmao

LP In a discussion about length of games these days and how survival horror games have always been on the short side, I've mentioned how replayability is also what made those games great and that's been implemented in different ways. I prefer replayability with new elements vs padding a game out

This is why you should walk around town instead of drive. You might stumble upon a new place you didn't even know was there. This is Outer Orbit (S Tacoma Way area), an arcade with pizza and ice cream. Nice to stumble upon a non-bar arcade for once

LP I highly doubt anyone outside of content creators are going to pay the extra to play early when they've had other ways of getting a hold of games early before this was a thing. I do hate the culture of rushing to play games though.

Im sure games like Silent Hill f will be great, Im looking forward to it. But seeing that extra 10 dollars version of SHf for early access makes me cringe. One might say content creators who buy into it would make their money back but its still supporting a practice like that in the first place.

With the double-dipping problem, I still need to acquire physical copies of all RE Engine games outside of RE7. I have the CE box edition for 7, but after that I went purely to PC. Ive been trimming off my physical collection lately, but I want physical copies of games I have more of an attachment

I think SHf will be a good bridge between fans of survival horror in Western settings (despite being by Japanese devs) and those who play more niche survival horror games taking place in Japanese settings with cultural or mythological themes. Like how people picked up Sekiro coming from Souls

The thing thats difficult about Silent Hill f is thats its a game Id want a physical copy of, but I dont have a current gen console to play it on. I have PC but for a game like f, Id have to spend almost 70 to play it digitally and then double-dip later. Thats the only disadvantage of going PC
