Today we honor the brave men and women who have died in uniform serving our country. I was grateful to participate in a moving program this morning at the Waterloo Veterans Memorial Hall to remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

I refuse to accept that we have enough money to pay for massive tax cuts to billionaires but can't afford quality healthcare for every Iowan, or that we can pay for the war in Iran but can't afford to expand access to childcare for working families. We need leaders who make better choices.

Iowa Falls is a beautiful and historic river town! I enjoyed spending some time with the Hardin County Democrats to talk about education, the farm economy and other issues over dinner at The River Tap.

The Octopus in Cedar Falls is a great community asset, providing a space for community gathering focused on the arts. I loved having a chance to speak there last week. I also had a strategy session with our UNI campaign fellows about our plan to get out the vote.

Our political system is broken. Politicians from both parties spend too much time sipping cocktails at receptions with lobbyists in Des Moines and DC instead of fighting for working people. It's not acceptable and it needs to change.

My church held a training to teach people how to observe ICE safely and respond in a legal way. Now some are calling for its nonprofit status to be stripped. This is ridiculous - our democracy thrives when people are able to hold our government accountable and exercise their free speech.

I took a shift yesterday distributing Thanksgiving meals at the Northeast Iowa Area Food Bank in Waterloo. They had given out over 2,600 dinners and counting as of 2:00 pm - truly a monumental effort! Thanks to all of the donors and volunteers who made this happen.
