John Carpenter is my favorite director, and not only do believe his film The Thing is his masterpiece but is one of the greatest horror films ever made.

Why I Love Horror: Essays on Horror Literature was a great book. I blitzed through it. Each chapter is an essay by an author on why they love the genre/write in it.

If Megadeth’s 17th album is truly their last, as Mustaine said it would be, it’s a great way to end one of the greatest careers in metal music.

Really enjoyed Vagabond by Tim Curry.

New Kreator album, Krushers of the World, is what you want out of a thrash metal album. Enjoyed this album more than their previous one. Best song on the album is Tränenpalast.

Back in 2003, I picked up a Stephen King book for the first time. It was The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. Loved it, and it made me a lifelong fan of his work. So, I decided to go back and reread it (as I plan on doing with a lot of his work I read early on). The book still holds up.

Chain Reactions is a really good documentary.

Very interesting book on the West Memphis Three.

Last year, I blitzed through four of Ronald Malfi’s books, and instantly became one of my top ten favorite authors. I had not picked up anything of his this year, so decided to give Small Town Horror a shot. Loved it.

Really enjoyed Danse Macabre by King. Loved that it was just him discussing and breaking down horror across all different platforms: books, films, TV, and radio.

Coffin Moon by Keith Rosson took me a little bit to get into, but once it got me I blitzed through it.

It Came from the Closet: Queer Reflections on Horror was an interesting book. I always enjoy reading books with different perspectives on things I love, like horror.

Loved The Exorcist Legacy: 50 Years of Fear by Nat Segaloff. When starting this book, I thought it would only cover the original 1973 film, which is one of the most important horror films in history, but was happy that it covered the entire franchise.

The Boys of Winter: The Untold Story of a Coach, a Dream, and the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team by Wayne Coffey is a must read for any hockey fan.

Richard Matheson is a must read for anyone that loves horror literature. While Hell House wasn’t my favorite by him (Duel and A Stir of Echoes are) it still was a good read.

Municipal Waste and Cannibal Corpse put on a great show last night. I honestly think the audience was the most diverse crowd I’ve been part of at a metal show. Over the last several years I have seen this change, gradually, but it was so apparent last night.

Loved reading Rainbow in the Dark by Ronnie James Dio. One of the best vocalist in the history of metal, and an amazing catalogue of music with Rainbow, Sabbath, and his own band, Dio

Finished Daphne by Josh Malerman. Second book I’ve read by him (first being Bird Box, which I enjoyed this one more). Started off slow for me, but really enjoyed it once it got my attention.

When I was a kid, I remember watching reruns of the show Kolchak: The Night Stalker (originally aired 1974-1975) with my parents. So, I have fond memories of this show, and have always liked monster of the week type shows.

Just finished Your Favorite Scary Movie: How the Scream Films Rewrote the Rules of Horror by Ashley Cullins. Absolutely loved every chapter of this; tore right through it.

I love the original Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, along with the book it’s based off of by Robert Bloch. So I thought I’d check out the sequel Bloch wrote. Didn’t care for it at all.

So happy that The Warning has put out a live album. While their four albums out now are great, they have not captured just how amazing this band sounds when they play live (last year’s Keep Me Fed came close). One of the best pure rock bands out right now.

Very happy with the new Deftones album, Private Music. It’s their best release since 2012’s Koi No Yokan (the two releases after that, 2016’s Gore and 2020’s Ohms I could not get into).

Brent Hinds, along with the rest of Mastodon, was such an integral part of modern metal, and helped push the New Wave of American Metal into the forefront. I remember first seeing the music video for Blood and Thunder on Headbanger’s Ball, while in high school,

Been meaning to check out Kill Creek by Scott Thomas for a few years now. Glad I did. It doesn’t something a little different with the haunted house story.

Really dig the new Chevelle album, Bright as Blasphemy. It is stronger than their previous album, NIRATIAS (wasn’t a big fan of that album), and I think it’s up there with 2014’s La Gárgola and 2016’s The North Corridor,

The new Babymetal album, Metal Forth, is just a lot of fun with many different sounds, depending on the artists they collab with. Ratatata featuring Electric Callboy is a blast and really catchy, but then you have the really heavy Song 3 featuring Slaughter to Prevail.

Love the new Halestorm album, Everest. Very few in rock and metal that can top Lzzy Hale’s vocals. Some really good riffs throughout as well. Favorite song on it has to be Rain Your Blood On Me.

Finished reading the new King book. Loved that it was another story with Holly Gibney. She is definitely one of my favorite characters he has created.

Freaking gut punch. It is because of this man (along with the rest of Sabbath) that we have Heavy Metal. None of the sub genres or anything about the music I love and hold so sacred would exist.

Still on a high from Finally seeing one of my favorite bands, The Warning, live this last Sunday. Just incredible. Everyone needs to see them.

Enjoyed The Long Walk by Stephen King. Looking forward to the film adaptation that comes out in September.

Absolute Wonder Woman is an interesting story, so far (first comic I’ve picked up in a few years). The premise is what if Wonder Woman was raised in hell, instead of Themyscira, and by the sorceress Circe and not Hippolyta, the queen of the Amazons.

Fantasticland by Mike Bockoven was an interesting read. Will definitely check out more from this author.

A big fuck you to the Southern Baptist. With the history of abuse within the church (purposely trying to hide the hundreds of sexual abuse victims from coming public over the years) doesn't surprise me that they would want to continue to hurt people.

New Volbeat album is fantastic. Favorite song on it is In the Barn of the Goat Giving Birth to Satan’s Spawn in a Dying World of Doom.

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman has to be one of the most random, over the top, and just plain fun books I have read. Had a blast with this one. Will definitely continue with the series at some point.

Enjoyed revisiting the world of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl Who Lived Twice.
