Bookworm Dog Person Teacher
“Millions of kids can't read well. Scientists have known for decades how children learn to read, but many schools don’t know about the research. They buy teacher training and books that are rooted in a disproven idea.” Many educators have known too…but what do we know?

Red Clay By Charles B Francher 5/5 ⭐️s Mini-Review: Beautiful storytelling that focuses on the relationships of slave laborers and plantation owners at the end of the Civil War. This novel spans decades and highlights the horrors and triumphs of both families. Read this book!

Black Woods Blue Sky By Eowyn Ivey 4/5 ⭐️s Mini-Review: This is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast-of sorts? I adored young Emaleen in all of her innocence. I was hopeful but sad for Birdie. The story moves slowly with beautiful descriptions of the Alaskan wilderness. 💙📚

I Who Have Never Known Men By Jacqueline Hartman 4/5 ⭐️s Mini-Review: I love a good dystopian novel! This was a unique and interesting read. The biggest feeling while reading- loneliness. This book left me with a feeling of wanting more but I think that might have been its purpose for me.

The Last Summer on State Street By Toya Wolfe 5⭐️s Mini-Review: This debut novel is a heartbreaking story of difficult but necessary truths. I was invested in the four girls and enthralled by their journey and growth. I also loved Momma Pearl. Move this to the top of your tbr list!

The River is Waiting By Wally Lamb Pub Date 05/26/25 4 ⭐️s Mini-Review: The River is Waiting is a heartbreaking and well written novel. The characters are realistically flawed and I was rooting for them throughout the book. Overall, I enjoyed the book and would definitely recommend!

The VHS cover, the song titles for each chapter, and all of the 80’s references make this book pretty rad. Like many of Grady’s novels, this was a dark comedy about friendship, the south and all its charm, and of course an exorcism.
