Like that, the two fell into easy conversation with each other Under Octavia’s tutelage, Charlie realized she wanted to open and operate her own independent recording studio Adelio for once was serious about getting his fitness instructor license

“Mom mentioned that. She had high praises for your performance. Avery’s good. She’s somewhere in a jungle I think” “Jungle?” “Yeah. She’s working for this archaeologist now, which isn’t surprising. Avery’s the biggest history nerd I know”

“Hence why I’m hardly in mine. I feel like the studio sees more of me than my bed” “You always did live in the studio. Apollo’s great though, he keeps good company” “I bet. Oh, I forgot, I ran into your parents at a charity event last month. How’s your sister?”

Behind them, Apollo barked as he played with his toy and Charlie chucked shaking her head. “I can’t believe you got a dog” “It was quiet after you left and honestly a little lonely coming home to an empty apartment,” Adelio replied honestly

I was lowkey inspired by this shot in Insecure Ade still lives in the City, but he’s surrounded by flowers/blossoming while Charlie’s background is plain/stagnant to show she hasn’t really moved on with her life but her canvas/life still has room color/growth

A smile crinkled Adelio’s face. They were each other’s partners for a long time, but he had to learn how to let her go and the idea that maybe they could even be friends The possibility didn’t seem so foreign now “If you ever need an ear or shoulder, you know I’m always here for you. I promise”

“Of course. I miss you and I’m not saying it to make you feel bad, but I do. I’m living the dream I’ve always wanted and most days I just want to pick up the phone to call and tell you about it because you’ve always had my back when I needed it”

“I guess we both share the blame. I just wish we’d done things differently. I hope one day you can forgive me for all of it because you still mean everything to me” “I already have,” Adelio replied sincerely, “can you forgive me?”

The guilt Ade had finally let go off crept back in. His feelings for Aspen was the cause of the rift between them, he was the one who sunk their relationship “I was the one who…I screwed up, did everything wrong and I am truly sorry for how it all went down. I never wanted to hurt you”

She wanted to say maybe if she had, things wouldn’t have been screwed up, they wouldn’t have ended up as strangers to each other When she entered the apartment, her chest caved in at the absence of them. He’d moved on…with Aspen It was as though she’d never existed for him

“You don’t though. I was the one who pushed you away, who let my insecurities get in the way. I should have been honest with you and myself about how I felt instead of making you the bad guy”

“Ade,” Charlie’s voice punctured the air. “I’m sorry for everything that happened. I keep wishing I could undo it all, make things right” “Charlie, we both made mistakes, and I have a lot of the blame to carry,” Adelio replied quietly trying to ease her guilt and his own

An awkward silence descended between them and both shifted on the couch There was so much to say between them and yet neither knew how to begin the repair on what was broken

“You’re welcome. I’m really glad you’re happy Charlie. I always told you your music was award worthy. Octavia and your artists are lucky to have you” “Would have loved to win it. But there’s always next year” “Definitely. Believe in yourself. I do” “Thanks, Ade. That means a lot coming for you”

“How have you been?” He asked There was no need for conversation; she had her demos, but Adelio didn’t want them to be exes who were cold to each other “Good. I’m in town for a few weeks working with a some artists downtown. Thank you for the card and flowers by the way. It was very sweet”

Adelio was nervous and he didn’t know why. He had no reason to be He and Charlie were over. As far as he knew, she was seeing that Jagger dude. He was also happy with Aspen Despite all of these truths, discomfort existed

“It’s okay. Turns out I didn’t need them until now anyway. Can I grab them?” “Yeah,” he answered, “do you want to come inside?” “Sure,” she smiled at him and Ade pushed the warmth he always felt when she did so down

“Charlie,” he spoke her name softly “Hi Ade. I’m sorry I didn’t call, but I’m in town for some work and wanted to pick up my old demos for an artist,” she explained “The ones I forgot to mail when I moved. Shit. I’m sorry Charlie. I forgot,” Adelio apologized

Standing before her, the break up, the love they once had, the promises, everything they went through, felt like a lifetime ago and he was surprised at the small pang of missing her that filled his chest It was fleeting, an acknowledge of what they once were and the different paths they were now on

The last time he heard from Charlie was when he sent her a card with flowers congratulating her on her first award nomination. Despite everything that happened between them, he only wanted her happiness

For a moment he didn’t recognize her without the glasses not to mention her style had changed so much It was very Del Sol coded But sure enough when they locked eyes, it was the same woman he knew and cared for

When he got to his apartment building, he was surprised to find Charlie standing in front of the entry doors

The two continued working and it was around 9 when Adelio called it quits and headed home leaving Ty behind

“Fine, but you owe me” “I’ll add my absence to my long IOU tab,” Adelio joked “Not funny. You’ve been flaking on shit recently” “I know. Once this project at work cools down, I’ll be straight. I promise” Somehow Ty didn’t believe that

“Besides,” he added, “I want to get some uninterrupted work done with Azzy visiting her dad over next few days” Ty resisted rolling his eyes. It was just like Adelio to use his relationship for why he didn’t want to do something Guess some things never changed

Not to mention, Adelio often found himself cleaning up too many coding messes when it came to Dirk “helping out” For someone who claimed to be a tech mogul, Dirk fucked up a lot and Adelio was tired of having to fix his mistakes
