Okay, this is cool. My nana used to always have a copy of TIME on her coffee table and I like to think she’d be proud that her grandson made it in. I’ll definitely be getting a physical copy when it comes out on Friday. Thank you Shanna Fisher for the great photo!

These are two dishes served to Odysseus in The Odyssey; a potion called Kykeon given to him by Circe and a simple dish of pork and barley given to him on his return to Ithaca by the swineherd Eumaeus.

I recreated the original chocolate D Ration from World War 2. A chocolate bar designed not to melt and not to taste too good so soldiers wouldn’t eat it unless it was a real emergency.

What did people eat when they were broke and every penny mattered? During the Great Depression, families transformed inexpensive pantry staples into filling meals that kept them going through difficult times.🥫🎂

Many people know the story about the Margherita pizza being created for the queen in the 1890s. The story has a lot of holes in it including the fact that the pizza was around for decades by then. I tried making one based on a description from the 1850s and it’s amazing.

The life of a medieval butcher wasn’t easy, but you had a lot of time off since you couldn’t sell on “fish days”, of which there were many. But on those meat days you could sell the meat for this 15th century recipe of spiced meat and onions with saffron sauce.
