The 3rd player to commit to NU on 8/1, Owen McHale is a presence on the left wing for Dexter. A power forward who relishes the physical side of the game, McHale is a “workhorse” whose unique skillset that makes him invaluable to his team. Full report:

The second commitment Northeastern received on 8/1 was Noah Survilas, a play-driving winger from Dexter Prep. @_Neutral_Zone’s Prep Rookie of the Year in 2023-24, his combination of speed, hands, and elite vision project him to be a top-six winger for NU.

Hearing that ‘07 forward Cole Chandler has committed to Northeastern. The Nova Scotia native was a 5th round selection of the Boston Bruins in the 2025 NHL Draft. 13-19-32 in 64 games for Shawinigan of the QMJHL last year. He will return to Shawinigan next season.

Nathan Quinn is NU's second NHL draft pick, going 164th overall to the Philadelphia Flyers. A playmaking center, Quinn played his draft year in the QMJHL for Quebec, scoring 46 points in 54 games as a 17 year old. Expected to join the Huskies in 2026.

Sean Barnhill is the first Husky off the board in the 2025 NHL Draft, going 70th overall to the Rangers. Barnhill made his USHL debut last year and the 6'5" RD made an impact with his first three USHL goals all coming in the same game. Expected to join the Huskies in 2026.

Day 2 of the NHL Draft starts at noon, and Northeastern is expected to see multiple recruits selected. RD Sean Barnhill has been projected in the late 2-to-3 range. C Nathan Quinn has been ranked between rounds 3-5. Late round chance for Davis, Pechar, Caron, and Compton.

Heading into the 94th season of Northeastern Men’s Hockey, Vinny Borgesi has been named captain. Jo Lemay, Andy Moore, and Dylan Hryckowian will be assistant captains. Borgesi is the 92nd unique player to be bestowed the honor of Captain in program history.

The graphic from Northeastern includes the first half home games for men’s hockey. It’s notable the final home game in the graphic is Dec. 13. As that presumably is the final men’s hockey game at Matthews Arena. Northeastern has yet to announce the plan for home games in the 2nd half of the season.

Future Husky Sean Barnhill puts up the 2nd best horizontal jump at the NHL combine, officially measuring at 118". The 6'5 RD is being ranked the third round range in the upcoming draft and looking to move up on the board.

Defenseman recruit Owen Keefe will head north to play for Drummondville of the QMJHL next season. We had previously projected him for enrollment this Fall, but Keefe will now enroll in Fall 2026.

More Men’s schedule dates: Northeastern hosts Holy Cross on Saturday 10/4, potentially the season opener. Then NU will host Army on Friday 10/10 and make the return trip to West Point on Friday 1/2 to kick off the new year. NU will play Lowell in late February.

Date still TBA but given that NU and Brown have played in December both of the last two years I wouldn’t be surprised if NU/Brown is the second weekend of December to close the semester. Thanksgiving weekend is also a possibility in theory.

NEW COMMIT: '06 F Eric Lund commits to Northeastern. Younger brother of the San Jose Sharks' Cam, Lund is 6'1 and played last season for Cushing Academy, where he scored 24 points in 30 games. More to come on the site. Congratulations to Eric and the Lund family!

Incoming Husky Jacob Mathieu led the QMJHL playoffs in scoring with 31 points and in goals with 17 (no other player had more than 10). His 31 points are the most for anyone in a QMJHL playoff run since 2019. Mathieu and Rimouski now turn their attention to the Memorial Cup.

Former Huskies captain Zach Solow has signed for next season with Adler Mannheim of the DEL, the top league in Germany. Solow leaves North America after 174 AHL games and 69 ECHL games over 5 years, most recently with the Toronto organization for the last 3 seasons.

Chicago Steel goalie Louka Cloutier has flipped his commitment from Northeastern to Boston College. Cloutier had also been previously committed to Omaha before NU. The current NU goalie room of Lawton Zacher, Sigurdson, and DellaRusso is projected to remain intact through 2027.

Updating our previous post- UMass-Amherst dropped their whole schedule. Northeastern will play them four times: Friday 10/17 @ UMA Saturday 12/6 home at Matthews Sunday 12/7 home at Matthews, as a non-conference game Friday 1/30 @ UMA

NU will visit Amherst on Friday 10/17 and 1/30 next year. No return game at Matthews against UMass on either Saturday, so we'll see where those games slot in. Believe those are both conference games as the teams are set for 3 conference games and a nonconference game next year.

Dylan Compton with 2 primary assists as the Waterloo Black Hawks take Game 1 of the Clark Cup Final. After leading USHL defensemen in scoring in the regular season, he's 2nd in the entire USHL in playoff scoring with 13 points. No other defenseman has more than 7.

Junior F Matthew Perkins commits to NU after two years at Minnesota-Duluth. A 4th round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, Perkins won the 2023 Clark Cup alongside James Fisher, scored 6 goals and 15 points as a freshman with the Bulldogs, and plays both center and wing. More to come. Welcome Matthew!

First confirmed schedule news of the summer as Denver announces they will play at Matthews on Saturday 10/25 after playing at Conte Friday. Speculating, I would bet the end goal of this agreement is for DU to return the 2nd game NU played there last year to open the new arena.
