Honestly, it’s really nice to see how much I’ve improved with gamedev over time. I’m glad I saved my old work so I can look at it and see how far I’ve come.

Set up the menu clock and built out a solid message box system, I think. I'd need to adjust it if I wanted in-line formatting, but I don't think I'll add that unless I really feel I need it. #gamedev #pixelart

I’ve been quietly reflecting since that last game jam. I noticed a LOT of people were upset they didn’t win or get featured, and I’m like… girl, it doesn’t matter. It’s a game jam, not a publishing deal. It’s nice to be recognized, but… make games because you want to, not to get noticed.

I think the next game I make will be a joint venture with one of my buddies and it’ll be a Zelda-like with a neat twist. 👀

I need to level up my pixel art more. I might have to learn how to appropriately apply anti-aliasing and that’s always been something I felt was missing from the stuff I do.

I’m gonna fix this clown game up a bit, finish adding some QoL improvements and mobile controls, and then it’s off to the next game for me. Not sure what to make yet.

I’m not entirely sure how I could do anything more on theme than what I did, but overall I’m happy with the results! 37 out of 401 is nothing to sneeze at.

"abandoned baseball diamond" is one of the early game biomes I've had planned for ages, so I was excited to test it out here. I haven't designed tall grass yet, but other than that I think the tileset is very much handling the job! #pixelart #gamedev

I’m really happy that people seem to think the game is funny, and someone even mentioned it must have taken a lot of work to make. I think this is one of my most successful game jam games to date.

Honestly I wish I were better at pixel art. I see some stand out stuff on here but I struggle to make anything that isn’t basic.

I might actually do a video of my process and how I feel about the results of the jam once it’s over and get placed. It was definitely an ambitious project for me, but I learned a TON. One of my most enjoyable jam experiences so far.

This is the third mini-game, where you have to find the right section in the liability waiver to convince an attorney to sign it. I wanted to make a magnifying effect, but it would take me too long to figure out and I still need to script floor 3. I think I'll still finish on time though. #gamedev

I finished the 3rd minigame and managed to squash all the major bugs (for now). I just need to focus on the top floor now, which I’m thinking will be a quick succession of 5 micro games after solving a puzzle. I’ll post videos later.

I am officially behind schedule on development. I spent all of yesterday squashing major bugs but still haven’t gotten them all. I did start scripting a new minigame and made all the character sprites for the game, but still need to script floors 2 and 3.

I spent my limited time on day 4 being dumb and adding things I shouldn't be adding yet, such as a sound effect for each letter drawn for all dialogue and implementing music. You can now go to floor 2: the legal department. I need to spend tomorrow scripting the puzzles for it. #gamedev #gdevelop

I had initially planned 5 floors for Funny Business Inc., but I just barely finished floor 1, the tutorial floor, yesterday. I’ll have to remove two floors and try to have 3 polished levels for the jam. Hopefully I can make it work.

Well, that was surprisingly easy for day 3. Now the player can make a silly face for their ID badge and it will show up whenever they use it to move to a new floor. Other characters will also comment on it. Now I need to work on floor 2, which is the Legal department. #gamedev #gdevelop

I spent day 2 writing some dialogue, finishing the bureaucracy puzzle for floor 1, and made a mini game where you have to catch all the stamps that fall down from the top of the screen. Next is a game where you make an ID photo for your badge that follows you through the game. #gamedev

So I spent the first day doing some REALLY basic art, adding a text system, and adding a squeak to the main character's shoes when he starts walking. The point of the game is to puzzle out which form is needed where, and then completing a mini-game once you do. We'll see where this goes. #gamedev

So turns out the theme for this jam is “To the Top” which made me remember two things: 1. The top could be the big top and I love clowns 2. The top could reference climbing the corporate ladder. So, I’ve decided to make a game called “Funny Business Inc.” about climbing the ranks of a clown corp.

Okay I’ve been gone a while BUT there’s a game jam starting today so I’ll be posting about that for the next week or so. I might even make a vlog about my process if I can get my shit together enough.
