We did lose a lot of snowpack this past week, in spite of gaining a few cms yesterday, but still plenty of snow (30 to 50 cm) in a fair bit of the wooded areas. Basically anywhere the sun is beating on directly all day long, it's still winter glacier mode. #nlwx

What winter says to us roughly every 3 to 5 days until sometime between early May and late June. #nlwx

This is kinda the exact reason we tend to not like spring storms... Even if it worked out pretty well, if could very easily have gone awry. Lol take the next incoming storm for example... Knife edge forecast. Lots of snow, temps near 0. (sarcastic yay.) #nlwx

We're poised to lose a lot of snow over the next 3 days, especially Sun and Mon where it will be above 10 C and windy. However, most models are showing some flavour of this nonesense for next week. So maybe two steps forward, one step backwards, but don't worry, Spring is definitely winning. #nlwx

Apparently it's been 18 days since I last skied, which seems crazy to me, I coulda been up to 30 by now, but this makes 22. Trails are doing surprisingly well given the current #nlwx. Reminds me of the time I went out on May 1 in 2017, soft but lots of glide. Might soon be time for disc golf though!

I just realized it's past April 15th, and therefore I can now cheer on the demise of the snow pack. Especially after my walk last evening where I wore the wrong boots and kept falling through the packed down trail... I had to break out my summer hikers early to have dry feet this morning. #nlwx

Funny, was just going through old pictures I was able to save during a recent hard drive crash and came across these doozies from Apr 4th 2017. Note the snow clearing began during daylight and ended well after nightfall. So for those #nlwx folks tired of Winter... just remember, it could be worse!

Another beautiful #nlwx day for #TeaByTheSeaInTheTrees: Gander Lake edition. This trail hasn't gotten as much use as others this winter, the snow is pretty deep. Busted through and it swallowed my whole leg at one point. I heard some Ruby-crowned kinglets warming up the first half of their songs.

Well for what it's worth, as we stare down another shot of snow, I did hear my first robin singing this morning when I got home from night shift. The process is usefully slow for #nlwx, but Spring will indeed come, it just comes pre-loaded with a certain percentage of Winter.

Another consideration for the current temperatures is that they are for the most part within the climatological normal for lows for Mar 28. So at the moment, we're probably closer to normal as we're only a few hours off the overnight lows. That will change later today as it refuses to warm up #nlwx

Since Labrador is actually the place with the Cold Warnings out, no surprise to see most areas in the extremely below normal for Mar 28th. Some of these forecasted highs could be new records for cold highs. Having said that, we do usually undershoot the highs in the Spring. #nlwx

Seeing a few grumbles about the cold from some Island folk this morning. Well it is indeed colder than normal to varying degrees for March 28th. Basically, from a little below in the east, to extremely below in the west / north. These are for the forecasted highs, not for current #nlwx temps.

Make it 20! I have officially reached triple ski pass value, everything more from this point is just cherries on top. A second day in a row of beautiful #nlwx and excellent track conditions. This might be the skiingiest season ever? I don't remember how many I did in 2017, but mt last ski was May 1

19! Pretty much the opposite from the last outing. So much faster, surprisingly, after all that rain and warmth. #nlwx was perfect for it.

Beautiful #nlwx, super slow ski conditions. Normally my speed is up near 9, definitely a slog. If you weren't going downhill, you were slowing down. At least it's officially my 18th outing, although it was pointed out to me that snowshoe passes are only 5 bucks, so 1 more snowshoe, 1 ski to triple.

Wakes up to sunshine: there will be skiing, oh yes, there will be skiing.

Stoked to get out for my 17th outing just before the storm. Highlights include: lovely #nlwx, a great horned owl hooting in the distance, a pretty fast but icy at times track, and some moose prints walking right down the red trail.

Not quite ready for Spring yet, but a nice #nlwx day is hard to complain about. Can't hike is much with the dog anymore cause of her knee, but we can do some shorter #TeaByTheSea: Gander Lake editions.

Hehe, the CBC Radio news guy buggered up the time change news twice in a row, two different ways now. First BC was joining Sk and Yukon in Standard time. Now BC is joining Sk and Yukon in Daylight Savings Time. In reality, BC is joining Yukon in DST, Sk is remaining in standard time.
