At only 10 years old, in May 1938, Bronia Snow came to London on the Kindertransport from Czechoslovakia. Bronia survived. She celebrates her 99th birthday this year.

Polish Jewish woman Ala Gertner was born in Będzin in 1912. She was incarcerated in Auschwitz in August 1943. She worked in 'Union' munition factory from where together with other women she smuggle gunpowder to Sonderkommando resistance. She was hanged #OTD 6 January 1945.

In January 1943, a transport of 1,210 Jews deported from Berlin arrived at Auschwitz. SS doctors selected 127 men to be registered in the camp. The remaining 1,083 people were murdered in gas chambers. Helmuth Press was among them. He was 13 years old.

Swedish diplomat Folke Bernadotte was born #OTD in 1895. He was able to negotiate the release of about 450 Danish Jews and 30,550 non-Jewish prisoners from the Nazi German Theresienstadt concentration camp. In 1948 Bernadotte was assassinated in Jerusalem.

"Despite all these atrocities, I want to live." 14-year-old Rutka Laskier kept a diary of her life in the Będzin Ghetto in Nazi-occupied Poland. It resurfaced only 60 years later. Rutka was murdered #OTD January 1st, 1943 at Auschwitz. We remember.

The Holocaust in Ukraine. When the Nazis invaded the Soviet Ukraine, they began killing locals. #OTD December 15, 1941, approximately 15,000 Jews were murdered. Children were thrown alive into pits to save bullets, expecting they would freeze to death.

#OTD December 12, 1926 | Irene Buchman, a Ukrainian Jew, was born in Bilke. In June 1944, she was deported to #Auschwitz. Her parents and brother were murdered there. Irene survived, and today we remember her on what would have been her 99th birthday.

During the German occupation of the Netherlands, Marion Pritchard helped save approximately 150 Jewish children from deportation to Auschwitz. Marion Pritchard passed away #Otd December 11, 2016, at the age of 96.

French Jewish boy Pierre Deutsch was born in Paris in January 1938. He arrived at Auschwitz #OTD 10 December 1943 in a transport of 1,000 Jews deported from #,Drancy. He was among 661 of them murdered after selection in a gas chamber.

Uri Hanauer was one of the few children to survive the Theresienstadt ghetto, established in late November 1941. Despite Nazi claims that it was a spa town, more than 30,000 Jews died there. Theresienstadt was also a transit ghetto from which Jews were deported to their deaths.

Jewish Israeli Holocaust survivor Yehuda Friedman, who was a member of a secret group of who plotted revenge against the Nazis, has passed away at 105.

His name is Francis Levin. #OTD 23rd November 1943, he was among a transport of 1,200 Jews deported from Drancy in France to #Auschwitz. SS doctors selected 241 men & 45 women to be registered. The remaining 914 were killed in gas chambers. Francis was nine years old.

A chronicler of the #WarsawGhetto and creator of the Ringelblum Archive, Emanuel Ringelblum provided one of the most powerful testimonies of the #WW2 #Holocaust. He was born #OTD 22nd November, 1900. The documents depicting life in the Ghetto were discovered in Warsaw.

“We will go into exile with our heads held high, and when we take our final steps, we will do so with dignity.” Gerta Bruckmann, #OTD 19 November 1941 Gerta Bruckmann, her husband Sally and three of their four children were murdered in the Holocaust.

Hannie Schaft. Prominent #WW2 Dutch resistance fighter known as 'the girl with the red hair' was caught & executed by Dutch Nazi officials on 17/4/1945. In November 45, she was given a state funeral & named "the Dutch symbol of the Resistance".
