They’re throwing the book at the driver, but when do we indict our transportation system as well? The crash occurred at 2:35 am when traffic had slowed in a work zone. The bus driver was driving from NYC to NC on an overnight trip. There were 2 other crashes in the same location.

Horrifying. Looks like a bomb got dropped on them. When you drive a car on the highway in America, your life is at the mercy of drivers who are using their cell phones, sleepy, drugged up, etc, AND the traffic engineers who don’t care about your safety, just speed.

Another life snuffed out.

A stand up motorized scooter which is probably not street legal. This is awful. What a horrifying situation that did not have to happen. The bridge is STILL unsafe even after we got our own lane, mostly due to men who insist on riding like entitled, FYIGM assholes.

I can’t overstate how much of a game-changer the 31st St bike lane is for us in Astoria. It’s critical to have a smooth, straight, flat bike lane in the CENTER of the neighborhood. 31st St is where everything is! I don’t want to ride up Crescent to go to United Bros!

Door Zone bike lanes are terrible. Drivers and passengers are required by law to look before swinging their doors open, but there should be a buffer to prevent these conflicts in the first place.

The light on my power strip has retuned to normal brightness and my fridge is colder again. Con Edison totally turns down my voltage or wattage or whatever- when it’s hot out.

Great place to stop your gargantuan SUV: blocking the bike lane, crosswalk, and curb cut all at once. Yes, it was a TLC vehicle, and yes, the driver was dicking around on her phone.

This is terrible, biased journalism. The focus is the e-bike, the injuries, and that the child “was not wearing a helmet.” Nothing about the circumstances of the crash- how did the driver hit the child? What was the driver’s speed? It doesn’t even mention the make of the vehicle.

The “Albany teen” behind the wheel of this SUV drove 60 mph down a street, struck a tree, rolled over several times before ramming into a home, and ejecting two female passengers, is only 13 years old. 13!!!

“Schwally's attorney apologized for his client causing the crash and called him a handicapped driver whose right leg locked up on the gas pedal.” After pounding two bottles of hard liquor such that his BAC was 2x the legal limit. Throw the book at this monster.

No mention in the article that the car has no front plates and appears to have no NYS registration stickers on the windshield. So either it was an out of state driver visiting NYC, or someone committing insurance and registration fraud. Many such vehicles on our streets.

What is the life of a man- a father of two- worth? Xi Zheng was biking to work as he typically did, when a driver driving a large pickup truck killed him. Zheng’s two kids are now left without their dad. The driver received a ticket. We have to do better.

Horrible start to the Friday.

You wouldn’t even know that this woman was killed by a DRIVER on a dangerous road. Instead, this reporting tells of the heroic self-sacrifice for the good of the children. The actions of the driver are glossed over.

Horrible. The city needs to do more education about never leaving the door open when there’s a fire in a building. This is not to judge people’s split-second, panicked, terrified actions— but leaving the door open causes fires to spread. Just awful.

A driver kills a person nearly every week in NYC. Poor guy.

At least this Chevy Tahoe driver didn’t kill anyone else. Why’s it so easy to speed like a maniac and flip your car over on this road?

Add “sitting at a table folding laundry” to the list of mundane, everyday activities people were doing before they were suddenly killed by a reckless driver. Strip malls with no bollards are terrifying.

Are NYC drivers OK?

This is horrifying for anyone who drives or rides in a car in NYC. You could be sitting there minding your business, lawfully waiting at a red light, and some speeding asshole can just take your life in an instant. Really sad. Poor guy. “Cops believe speed was a factor” yeah, we know.

I am a pretty experienced cyclist but one thing I can’t do yet is drink a bodega coffee while biking like I see guys do sometimes.

Police chases endanger everyone on the roads. Tag the car and track it later.

Hard to convey how terrifying it is when a speeding driver close-passes you while you’re biking. If Central Park had a protected bike lane along its southern border, cyclists could ride protected and not be subject to dangerous passes or dooring.

Saw some 🤯 behavior by a cyclist at the QBB exit. We were all waiting at the red light and she decides to bolt across to turn on 61st. An SUV with the ROW came within inches of smashing her. Why be so foolish? We all make errors in judgement but there’s no reason to endanger your life.

Is this raised crossing on 2nd Ave new? I don’t remember seeing it. Why are the anti-bike zealots so against these? They make the crosswalk clear and apparent, and they serve as a refuge if you cannot hustle across in time.

Three speed camera violations last month, including two received on the same day. The driver has a history of recklessness.

Terrifying. Miracle no one was killed.

Sitting on a bench. Waiting at a bus stop. Crossing the street. Enjoying a Fourth of July party. These are the things people were doing in NYC when drivers killed them. Just wait. They’ll blame “medical episode”.
