Hi #langsky and #studysky! I'll teach you an academic writing technique called "nominalisation", which turns verbs and adjectives into nouns (ex: "decide" -> "decision"). This is to form more abstract, formal, concise, and cohesive text. However, overuse can make writing unclear.

A little fun fact! Chinese surnames are often just one character. Some common ones are 王 Wáng, 李 Lǐ, and 张 Zhāng. But did you know that two-character Chinese surnames, though rare, also exist? A few examples of actual two-character Chinese surnames are 诸葛 Zhūgě, 司马 Sīmǎ, and 欧阳 Ōuyáng. #langsky

Since there are no customers at work right now and I have to finish a work-related document in a few days, I studied some Korean vocab with the latest Culinary Class Wars ("흑백요리사" in Korean) episodes. Some of the shown vocab are from last week's episodes. #langsky

I was surprised that many of the English words I picked up from novels, video games, and even movies were C2 level and I had no idea they were C2. Like some of the words on C2 English vocab lists I learned from children's content. The C2 vocab lists really surprised me. #langsky

Corrected a total of 5 IELTS writing questions from 2 moots today. It doesn't count towards my own studying, but it felt nice! Now off to continue Korean listening and reading via Youtube videos related to Culinary Class Wars. #langsky

Anime and anime music are surprising sources of German vocab. I'm surprised how much the German vocab I learned from the Bleach anime, the Kill la Kill song Blumenkranz and more helped me understand a German Christian worship song's lyrics. Picked up a few sentences too. #langsky

I'm curious as to why the English accent I'm comfortable with is the Singlish accent. Our school followed the Singapore system but our English teachers were rarely ever from SG. We also had many teachers from US, UK, Australia, Philippines. I didn't watch many SG movies. #langsky

It's so interesting how with the different languages you know or are fluent in, you're good in and need improvement in different areas. I have a wider vocabulary in English than in Mandarin, but I can probably explain Mandarin grammar rules better than English ones. #langsky

I still can't read Mongolian Cyrillic and do not understand the phonetic rules, but I'm happy to understand 3 words and 1 phrase, specifically the words for "thank you", "one", and "two", and the phrase "how are you?" Bit by bit I suppose. #langsky
