Are you ready? It's nearly time for us to start our performances for Martha. We are so excited to show you what we've been working on. We start our shows this Friday (June 13th) until the 21st of June at the Sherman Theatre.

The characters you'll meet in Martha are named after figures from Deaf history. It's a little nod to the past that we hope will raise some awareness of these mostly hidden figures. Sarah is named for...well that's a bit of a mystery. Maybe you need to pay a visit to Martha's to find out.

Mabel is named for Mabel Gardiner Hubbard (1857-1923), whose history is mostly recorded through that of her husband, Alexander Graham Bell - inventor of the telephone and one of the biggest villains in Deaf history (more of that in the show!).

Bill is named for ally William “Bill” Stokoe Jr. (1919 – 2000) Bill's research was instrumental in changing the perception of ASL from that of a broken or simplified version of English to that of a complex and thriving natural language in its own right...

Kitty is named for Kitty O'Neil (1946-2018), 'the fastest woman in the world'. Stunt double for both Wonder Woman and the Bionic Woman, daredevil O’Neil’s stunt work was transformational in the entertainment industry with credits including the Blue Brothers and Smokey & the Bandit...
