Today, dioceses around the world are celebrating World Youth Day. On the feast of Christ the King, Let us #PrayTogether that every young person may discover the beauty and joy of following him, the Lord, and dedicating him or herself to his Kingdom of love, justice and peace.

I was deeply saddened to learn of the kidnapping of priests, faithful, and students in Nigeria and Cameroon. I feel great pain, above all for the many young men and women who have been abducted and for their distressed families. 1/3

Keeping our gaze fixed on the Face of Jesus allows us to look into the faces of our brothers and sisters. His love draws us toward them. Faith in Him, our peace, invites us to offer everyone the gift of His peace.

If we allow it, Christ’s salvific act can transform all our relationships: with God, with other people, and with creation. As followers of Jesus, we are called to promote lifestyles and policies that focus on the protection of human dignity and of all of creation. 1/2

As stewards of God’s creation, we are called to act swiftly, with faith and prophecy, to protect the gift He entrusted to us. #COP30

Let us #PrayTogether for the victims of a serious road accident that occurred last Wednesday in southern Peru. May the Lord welcome the deceased, sustain the injured, and comfort grieving families.

I follow with sorrow the news of attacks that continue to strike numerous Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv. These assaults cause deaths and injuries, among them children, and inflict serious damage on civilian infrastructure, leaving families homeless as the cold sets in. 1/2

In various parts of the world, Christians suffer discrimination and persecution. I think especially of Bangladesh, Nigeria, Mozambique, Sudan, and other countries from which we frequently hear of attacks on communities and places of worship. 1/3

I urge Heads of State to listen to the cry of the poorest. There can be no peace without justice. The poor remind us of this in many ways, through migration as well as through their cries, which are often stifled by the myth of well-being and progress, which does not take everyone into account.

In our times still wounded by old and new forms of poverty, the Church seeks to be mother of the poor, a place of welcome and justice (cf. Dilexi te, 39).

In the midst of persecution, suffering, struggles, and oppression in our personal lives and in society, God does not abandon us. God always takes the side of the little ones, orphans, strangers, and widows.

Scenarios of war, unfortunately present in various regions of the world, seem especially to confirm that we are in a state of helplessness. Yet, the Gospel reminds us that it is precisely in the upheavals of history that the Lord comes to save us.

The #GospelOfTheDay (Lk 21:5-19) invites us to reflect on the travails of history and the end times. Jesus’ words proclaim that the attack of evil cannot destroy the hope of those who trust in Him. The darker the hour, the more faith shines like the sun.

We have much to gain from the source of wisdom contained in the experience of the poor. Only by relating our complaints to their sufferings and privations can we experience a reproof that can challenge us to simplify our lives. #JubileeOfThePoor #DilexiTe

Growing up in precarious circumstances, learning to survive in the most adverse conditions, trusting in God with the assurance that no one else takes them seriously, and helping one another in the darkest moments, the poor have learned many things that they keep hidden in their hearts. #DilexiTe

The poorest aren't only objects of our compassion, but teachers of the Gospel. It's not a question of “bringing” God to them, but of encountering Him among them. Serving the poor is not a gesture to be made “from above,” but an encounter between equals, where Christ is revealed and adored. #DilexiTe

Catholic Social Teaching is neither an abstract theory nor an unattainable utopia. Rather, it offers a path to transform the lives of people and institutions by placing Christ at the center of every human activity.

Holiness must blossom precisely where decisions are made that affect the lives of thousands of families. The world needs entrepreneurs and leaders who, out of love for God and neighbor, work for an economy that serves the common good.

Our humanity is best fulfilled when we exist and live together, when we succeed in experiencing authentic, informal bonds with the people around us. If we close in on ourselves, we risk growing sick with loneliness, or even narcissism, which leads us to care for others only out of self-interest.

We can respond to the demands of our vocation only if we place Christ at the center of our existence and mission. We start from our act of faith that leads us to recognize in Him the Savior, living it out in prayer, study, and the commitment to a holy life.

The Lord will not be outdone in generosity to those who serve the people most in need. The greater the love for the poor, the greater the reward from God. #DilexiTe

Technological development has brought, and continues to bring, significant benefits to humanity. In order to ensure true progress, it is imperative that human dignity and the common good remain resolute priorities for all, both individuals and public entities. 1/2
