Friday 9 am: Hot weather occupies most of the U.S. The atmosphere above our shallow layer of gulf air is fairly dry, lifted air only slightly buoyant to rise. I will watch the radars, but isolated sea breeze showers that form will mostly be active to our east. ~100F pm.

Thursday 10:23 pm: Just Because Department: 90F heat reached to 72N latitude in Saskylah (91F) and nearly did so in Ust'-Olenek at 73N latitude. They ultimately reached 88F, average high this time of the year is 54F.

Thursday 4:20 pm: Big Picture Weathermap: 100F heat earlier in Boston, at least 102F at La Guardia in NYC after a low of 84F, at least 104F in Newark, NJ. Watching radar, just in case a sea breeze shower could reach as far west as us, not much of a chance.

Thursday 8:28 am: A seasonably hot day, slightly lower afternoon humidity. I will watch radar, but most scattered sea breeze showers will stay east of our part of south Texas.

Wednesday 5:51 pm: About as steamy as it gets in Quebec, Montreal with a dewpoint of at least 78F, perhaps 79F. Quebec City with a dewpoint of at least 75F.

Wednesday 4:22 pm: Big Picture Weathermap: Steamy 75F dewpoints north into Ontario. Montreal, Quebec with a 77F dewpoint. Lifted air in south Texas is a little more buoyant to rise, scattered sea breeze showers into eastern Jim Hogg County. I do not expect them here, will watch.

Wednesday 8:19 am: Lifted air is a little more buoyant to rise, a few more cumulus in our afternoon skies, a partly cloudy afternoon. Drier air is still above and will stir in to lower afternoon humidity a little. Upper 90’s pm.

Tuesday 4:24 pm: Big Picture Weathermap: Hot moist air has spread far north beyond Michigan into Canada. 90F warmth, 75+F dewpoints. Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan earlier had a 77F dewpoint! No weather features yet available to change Laredo weather, some low cloud dawn, 100F pm.

Tuesday 3:49 pm: Warm air has won the battle in Duluth/Superior. Over the hill in Duluth, the warm southwest winds have prevailed most of the day. Superior, WI had the warm winds arrive ~1 pm. At Sky Harbor Airport on Duluth, it took until ~3 pm!

Tuesday 8:26 am: Very warm, moist gulf air remains capped by dry air just above (not seen on this surface map). A sunny hot breezy day, 100F with lower afternoon humidity as dry air above mixes in.

Monday 4:10 pm: Big Picture Weathermap: Hot, moist air spreading far to the north, >75F dewpoints, >90F heat reaching into Minnesota, Wisconsin. Our dewpoint has lowered into the mid 60's as dry air aloft has mixed in with our 100F heat as of 4 pm.

Monday 2:25 pm: A tint to the sky, especially toward sunset may be noticed from a batch of dust passing above that originated in the Sahara. The dust will mostly exit to our north as Tuesday progresses:

Monday 9:21 am: Hot moist air is expanding far to the north, on it’s way this week into the mid and north Atlantic states. We continue with dry air above, mixing in with our gulf air, bringing sunshine, somewhat lower afternoon humidity. Breezy, ~100F pm.

Sunday 4:29 pm: Big Picture Weathermap: Today is our 9th day of 2026 to reach 100F, average is 25 such days through a June 28. We will be ~100F again Monday, and not far from it most of this week as weather systems that could change our weather are tracking well away from us.

Sunday 9:11 am: Dry, very warm air remains above our shallow layer of gulf air. The lower atmosphere will stir to a deep enough depth with daytime heating to mix in the dry air above and lower afternoon humidity. ~100F this afternoon.

Thursday 4:09 pm: Big Picture Weathermap: Very little change in our weather pattern. Dry air above our moist gulf air is stirring in, lowering dewpoints into the 60's rest of afternoon/early evening. Humid late evening/Friday morning, lower pm humidity, upper 90's Friday.

Thursday 2:39 pm: Just Because Department: Very hot over western Europe. >100F with fairly dry air over France, offshore winds raised Jersey in the English Channel to at least 102F (average high is 67F). Steamy 70F+ dewpoints Belgium, Netherlands, Wales, western Ireland.

Thursday 8:47 am: A very warm dry airmass caps our shallow layer of moist gulf air. The lower atmosphere will stir with daytime heating over a deep enough depth to stir into the dry air above. This will bring lower mid/late afternoon humidity, sunshine, high 90’s.

Wednesday 4:11 pm: Big Picture Weathermap: A quiet combination of a decent breeze from the gulf in the lower atmosphere, Enough mixing in of dry air from above to perhaps lower dewpoint under 70F end of afternoon. Similar setup for Thursday.

Wednesday 10:33 am: Just Because Department: Another day of record >105F heat in France. Fairly dry with the 105F heat, but very moist, 70ish dewpoints on north coast of France to Belgium and southern England.

Wednesday 8:11 am: High pressure with dry air above our moist flow of gulf air at the bottom of the atmosphere will bring plenty of sunshine today. Drier air will stir in this pm, not as humid late afternoon. High 90’s.

Tuesday 4:08 pm: Big Picture Weathermap: Weather systems that could change our weather are taking a path well to our north. Quiet weather over the gulf. Little day to day change this week. Morning clouds, plenty of afternoon sun Wednesday, high 70's dawn, upper 90's pm.

Tuesday 12:04 pm: Just Because Department: >100F heat with fairly dry air over central/southern France. Quite moist on north coast of France, Belgium into England where 90F heat combines with exceptionally high >70F dewpoints.

Tuesday 9:03 am: A cap of warm air and descending air under a high pressure system aloft will bring sunshine and small cumulus clouds this afternoon. Upper 90’s pm. Still humid at the bottom of the atmosphere where we are.

Monday 4:01 pm: Big Picture Weathermap: A shallow layer of moist gulf is capped by a warm dry airmass. This will be a persistent pattern this week. Some low cloud Tuesday morning, plenty of afternoon sun, small cumulus clouds. Upper 70's at dawn, high 90's pm.

Monday 8:37 am: Our hot moist gulf airmass is capped by sinking motion on the eastern portion of a warm, upper level high pressure system. The result of this is mostly sunny skies, small cumulus clouds, hot and humid conditions.

Sunday 4:03 pm: Big Picture Weathermap: High pressure with drier air is building above our moist gulf airmass. This will increasingly act as a lid on tall clouds from forming. Plenty of sunshine with small cumulus clouds most of this week, upper 90's most days.

Energy arriving from the sun is much more focused per unit area than during the winter, leading to the warmth of summer vs winter. Also, there are more hours of sun above the horizon, available to heat the earth’s surface during the summer.

Sunday 1:52 pm: My shadow on summer solstice at solar noon compared with winter solstice last December 21. At our latitude (Laredo), the sun reaches ~86 degrees above the horizon compared to ~39 degrees at winter solstice.

Sunday 10:30 am: Just Because Department: >100F/38C heat across France, 106F at Cazaux on west coast of France, 108F in Balbio on coast of northeast Spain.

Sunday 8:11 am: Lifted air is not as buoyant to rise to form tall rain clouds today. I will watch the radar, just in case, partly cloudy for the most part, mid 90’s.

Saturday 11:39 pm: Scattered showers are moving northwest from near Bruni and points east. New small showers are forming from near El Cenizo and nearby Mexico.

Saturday 6:30 pm: Big Picture Weathermap: The upper level disturbance is still nearby, slight chance of a scattered shower overnight, most places stay dry. The disturbance weakens Sunday and fades from the Weathermap on Monday, leading to more settled weather.

Saturday 3:42 pm: Watching showers, some thundershowers moving north across the Webb/Zapata line.

Saturday 12:14 pm: Scattered showers are moving north from the valley, are approaching the Siesta Shores/Zapata area.

Saturday 9:27 am: An upper level disturbance above our warm moist airmass will likely pop up some showers this afternoon. A matter of luck to be under one, but some could be heavy. High 80’s pm.

Saturday 9 am: Radar estimated rainfall of >2” shows in yellow in the Laredo area last night. An upper level disturbance is overhead. Although widespread rain is on its east side, lifted air is buoyant to rise today; scattered showers/thundershowers are likely this afternoon.

Friday 10:14 pm: A fairly large area general area steady rain, some lightning moving east into the Laredo area.

Friday 9:58 pm: Heaviest rains are east of Laredo. Radar beam at ~17,000’ altitude picking up on a weak upper level low still west of river. Some showers will continue to overnight.

Friday 9:35 pm: Heaviest rains are edging east of Laredo, are moving into Encinal. Yellow color on 2nd image shows radar estimated rainfall of 1” to 1.5” over Del Mar area and I-35 south to downtown, prompting Flash Flood Warning in Laredo until 12:15 am.

Friday 9 pm: Small hail suggested by radar between International and Shiloh.

Friday 8:41 pm: .25” to .5” hail suggested by radar between Jacaman, Casa Verde Road, and TAMIU area.

Friday 8:15 pm: Will watch as strongest cells have some hail, 1” diameter hail ~14 miles to our southwest. Hail production is often brief, and May end, only for another cell produce hail.

Friday 8 pm: Thunderstorms continue to edge to the river from Mexico with plenty of lightning, heavy downpours. .5” to 1” diameter hail in storms ~20 miles to Laredo’s southwest, will watch.

Friday 7:30 pm: Thunderstorms are moving northeast from Mexico toward our area, others are forming over Laredo.
