Little update on Album 7. I have 11 songs that are favourites and another 4 that are maybes. If all goes to plan, the album will be done by the end of the year. Possibly my most Pop album to date but keeping the Electronic undertones.

The music marketing advice I see on social media is such BS. I don’t run ads, I don’t often talk to camera, I don’t post everyday, I don’t produce one genre, and yet I have a healthy amount of monthly listeners, and several million plays. I’m a full-time musician.

I strongly believe we need a ‘musicians strike’ much like the writers strike in the film industry a few years back. With Spotify underpaying artists, investing in AI warfare and actively encouraging ai music, we artists need to come together and make a stand.

Lockdown really brought the music world together. Musicians, producers and artists talking to each other on Discord, Twitch, Podcasts etc. Sharing music, knowledge, and just hanging out. Now it’s gone back to zero back and forth conversation between creatives.

Parallel saturation has saved so many of my mixes over the years and I don't see enough producers using it. On drums, on synths, on vocals, on the master.

With Google’s Veo 3 model out in the wild, and a rise in AI videos on the internet as a whole, how long until AI videos outnumber human videos? At what point is it that AI videos make up most of YouTube, TikTok, Instagram? And not if but when that happens, where do real people on the internet go?

A hill I'm willing to die on is that ABBA are massively overrated and are responsible for the ‘death’ of Disco. Disco was initially associated with Black, LGBTQ+ & Latino communities, but it later became over-commercialised, lost its authenticity and became too formulaic.

Dunno if this is a hot take or not, but that new Rihanna song is a banger. Rihanna reminding us that she’s always been the queen of the dance music/pop crossover.

The way I feel about my music being used to train AI models is the same way I feel about people using my samples/presets. You can use my recipes, my sounds, my tools but you’re still not me. You’ll just be an imitation of me.

I hope Rockstar Games realises how important the music is in its GTA games. The Fever 105 radio station in Vice City basically shaped my music taste. It inspired a whole generation of kids. So GTA 6 needs to get it right for the next generation.

There’s been so many articles and studies on the mental health issues within the music industry, that it’s almost becoming normalised. We’ve known about this for years and still our government does nothing. Expensive touring costs and low wages are to blame. It’s sickening.

My biggest issue with Dance Music is that unlike other genres, too many artists stay in their lane and suffer greatly doing so. By that I mean if you listen to 2 records by the same artist 20 years apart, there’s no growth. They sound the same. I get way more enjoyment hearing artists experiment.

It’s so weird that there’s barely any male Pop vocals charting these days outside of Hip Hop. It’s all female vocals and there’s only The Weeknd and Bruno Mars left. Where’s all the great Pop male voices?

There’s some songs I’ve been working on since last year that I’ve been pitching to major label artists lately. I truly believe they’re some of the best Pop music I’ve ever written. I really want 2025 to be the year that my songwriting for others takes off.

Every now and then, someone tracks me down on PlayStation and either messages me to compliment my music or adds me as a friend and doesn’t say a word. Either is great and both are wholesome as fuck.

What is it about the 1960’s work ethic with musicians and their refusal to stop? It’s amazing. Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchell. All still with us, all still releasing music.

All my best song ideas pop into my head at the most inconvenient times. In bed, in the dark, eyes closed about to go to sleep? Song idea. In the middle of a busy supermarket? Song idea. In the shower with my hair full of shampoo? Song idea. My voice notes app on my phone is just pure carnage.

I’ve fully accepted that music isn’t as valued as it used to be. Most people don’t talk about music anymore, they don’t recommend music and they listen to it as much as they used to. It’s here today, gone tomorrow and that’s sad, but it is what it is.

Do any other musicians/producers/engineers sit incredibly awkward when working at a desk in the studio? Or is it just me?

Give me late 00’s social media back. - Followers see what I post - I don’t have to pay to reach followers - No algorithms - No ‘For You’ suggestions - No posts from people I don’t follow If there was a social app that had all the above, I wouldn’t mind ads or paying for it.

I was a guest on a great podcast a few weeks back that will be available soon, and was asked why I don’t sample records anymore. I still do, I’ve just become better at hiding it.

With TikTok likely to be banned this week and the vast majority of people fed up with billionaire dictators controlling their social media feeds, surely now is the time for a decentralised platform like Bluesky to shine? 2025 is already changing the social media landscape.

Quentin Tarantino said a few years back “I love my movies, I’m making them for me. Everybody else is invited”. Make your art for you. Don’t follow trends, don’t make your art based on what you think other people will like. Make what you wanna see and hear. Be a fan of your own art first.

I really hate this 2m30s song trend. Especially for dance music. You can’t fit in enough builds, breaks and drops in that time. It just messes with the flow of the song. We had it perfect at 3m30s, plenty of time for intros, bridges, solos etc. Now all of that is cut out.

It’s crazy how much music was lost due to the MySpace server crash. Especially all the Blog House songs that never saw a release. I’m talking 2004-2009. It was also that weird period of early mp3 sharing, where 128kbps was considered ‘normal’ for music. It sounds like music made on a toaster today

Why do people who play music from their phone on public transport always have the worst taste in music? It’s always Hard Trance with some chipmunk vocals from 2002 or Mumble Rap. It’s never a Joni Mitchell song or something chill, it’s always the most irritating song you can imagine.

I’m so immersed in whatever new music I’m working on, that I often forget about what music I actually have released. I don’t listen to my own music. So when I do hear it, I’m like “oh yeah, I remember this one”. I should celebrate the past more, I’m guilty of living in the now.

AI music is a generalised view of a genre. It’s like if you read a Wikipedia article on a genre and it created something solely based on that. It will force human made music to be more experimental, which is a good thing for the art form. It’s the ‘safe’ human music that’s now ‘unsafe’ from AI.

The only music biopics I’ve ever liked were Walk The Line (Johnny Cash), Ray (Ray Charles) and Control (Joy Division). All of which are nearly 20 years old. What is it about music biopics in recent years, and why can’t they hit the right notes? (Pun intended)

There are only 2 Spotify Wrapped Types: 1 - People who are constantly searching to satisfy that itch for a dope new artist/song/album. 2 - People who are stuck in 2003 and listen to the same 3 artists from their childhood over and over again. Like eating the same meal every day of your life.
