For years I've gotten breaking news email blasts from the NYT. I finally unsubscribed for two reasons: first, everything is behind a paywall anyway; and second, it's all fucking hot garbage.

The problem with Platner reminds me when I went to a German restaurant with a dear friend. This place had lots of memorabilia on the walls. My friend called the manager over and told him "you have a photo of Heinrich Himmler on your wall. You need to take that down. Now." He did.

Pleased to see that my Black History Month display was short a few books, so time to add some fiction to the mix. First entries from @AuthorMsBev and Mary Monroe.

I just finished a 1 on 1 appointment with a lovely senior, who just wanted some tips on efficiently, effectively, and safely navigating the Web, and now I'm in a better mood.

One of the best feelings you can have is when you type a reply to a social media post, think "haha, that's clever" and then stop to think "is it really necessary--or appropriate?" and hit the Cancel button.

It's a sad day in the life of a public librarian when a valued patron says he can't come in anymore because his eyesight won't let him drive.

Anyone who looks at ICE "cops" as guys just trying to do their jobs in a corrupt system (a problematic opinion in its own right) should read the Christopher Browning's standout Ordinary Men and understand how groups of "regular guys" can form groups of monsters.

Spending my morning buying romance: MF; MM; FF; NB; Trans; Black; Hispanic; Filipina; Asian; Multi-cultural; and any other flavors. The only label required in romance is HEA.

Dear reference desk colleague. I don't mean to seem uncaring but, while you may be enjoying your conversation, I really didn't sign up to listen to this guy ramble for 30 minutes.

As a librarian at a public service desk, I just experienced the joy of seeing someone that looks like someone I... just don't want to see right now--and it wasn't. Not being uncharitable, and they'd still get all the help they needed (with a smile), just... maybe not right now.
