I want to strongly reiterate my position about the dignity of humans: Trans rights are human rights. Almost everything about living in a just and good world is embedded in that statement because it is unfortunately against trans folks where the war for human rights is being fought.

My first #GaryCon GM shirt design was based on Demogorgon, which was hot at the moment due to Stranger Things. This was for Gary Con 9. That means I just finished my 10th shirt art for the con! I just realized it.

This podcast is like so many others where you are aware the production values are much higher than most small podcasts. It builds tension, it has an arc. There's music. Lots of voices of the people who were there through TSR's history. Very nice. In combo with books I've read, this is great.

Listening to the podcast When We Were Wizards and every time Bill Hoyt says "guy-JAX" it makes my eye twitch.

Age gaps in relationships. A high risk situation because people, especially when young, tend to go through shorter phases. Older people have longer phases. More or less. There's also the power dynamic. Older means more power, often, in any relationship. For better or worse. But anyway... 1/4

Speaking of old art... these are all from 2002-2003. I was into stippling then. I still do it, but I've been more obsessed with grays and ink washes lately. 2001-2002 is when I reinvented myself, creatively. Instead of trying to draw more realistically I let myself draw less realistically.

I got my first paid art gig when I was in high school. It was the cover of a local poetry zine. After that, a small press fantasy prose zine. Then a decade of trading and freelance for small press comics. Then various indie RPGs, Gary Con, more and more indie RPGs... and I don't have a master list.

I keep seeing posts across the net where folks assume this drow has a mustache. I can see it once you point it out, but I NEVER saw it that way and I still don't. I see it as just a bit of Willingham shadowing. But that's probably because I don't associate facial hair with elves.

Sure, you can buy that GHL flashlight or that Dapper Corp hypercord. But when you want to be confident that your gear has got your back, you need to get a RIG. Jumpsuits, batteries, flack jackets, sunglasses, and yes... laser guns. RIG delivers. #ZSF #TTRPG

Finished it tonight. Great read! I learned many things I did not know. Small criticism is Briggs approaches hero worship TSR creatives. But I get it. They were a slick bunch of artists and writers and designers and the like. They deserve praise because that era is so often viewed negatively.

The song Women by Def Leppard is about a lonely man who gets horny so God makes him a sex doll. I mean, that's how I interpret it. I like this one, though. I remember watching the video on Headbangers Ball and loving that epic guitar intro. Lyrics? Not a huge concern in the 80s.

I think some folks have an instinct that if it isn't "realistic" it's inherently inferior. I disagree. Opinions are fine, but don't pretend this is some kind of objective truth. Instead of "nice drawing, but cartoony" try "nice drawing". Or "I'm not usually into this style but I like it".

"Papa, what were indie comics like in the 90s?" Visited local vendor's mall and picked up a stack of unusual, weird, or obscure comics for between $1 and $3 each. This one was a black and white book that looked like an Image comic of the time. I'm unfamiliar with Brit Force.

Watched Sinners on Halloween, loved it. Watched Superman yesterday, loved it. First time I watched movies in months.

Got inspired by Tim Sale's gray Hulk and doodled this.

New social media site where there is no "like" button, only a "dislike" button. Anyone with zero dislikes is the equivalent of having thousands of likes. But of course there will be that ONE GUY who has to click dislike because nobody else has done it yet. Then he comments "Nice" and goes away.

Got Lucky Luke 22 at the comic shop. Euro comic album. Belgian artist Morris (Maurice De Bevere) is one I am not familiar with. He has that classic European cartoon style. Clean, expressive lines, flat colors on the comic pages. Never heard of Lucky Luke, but looks like an old staple of the region.

Sometimes artists have weird opinions. Your fave artist might say "I hate paintings with a lot of red. Don't need red." And that's very weird to say, but that's just their, y'know, opinion, man. It's ok. Let the cooks cook. You ain't gotta eat it all. Just a random thought. I like red, though.

Quite a busy day. Visited The Comic Interlude in Lexington with an old friend, ate at the Gyros place there, then watched Sinners with the family tonight. And baked a pumpkin cheesecake recipe from the 16th century. Picked up Tom Scioli's Jack Kirby book, Yeah! by Peter Bagge and Gilbert Hernandez.

Reading #BenRiggs Slaying the Dragon, hot on the heels of reading #JonPeterson Game Wizards. These two books back to back tell the richest, deepest lore of #TSR that I've ever heard before. Such a crazy, sad, wild ride. A bunch of regular people caught a tiger by the tail and didn't expect it. 1/2

Spotted in the wilds...

The first #TTRPG I ever purchased with my own money right off the shelf was #StarFrontiers! This game was massively influential for me. The look, the vibes, the system, everything about it inspired me. Even these weird cutaway diagrams of the internal organs of a human and other space people.

Doodle of Eisner's The Spirit. When he did this character originally, he didn't have a mask. But the publisher asked him to add one because superheroes were super popular at the time. So he did, and that's how we remember him.
