Over the last 12 months you can tell within 2 minutes of a match whether spurs will struggle. Opposition sets a high line, presses intensely, overloads the centre - all the red flags. It’s happened with last 2 managers which leads me to think there’s a cultural issue at the club to solve first.

Lots of blame for vic on the goal but Gray demands the ball so he can pop it off to Cuti. Even if the pass to him is bad Gray’s got to use his body and play 1st time. Spurs are in a real funk of younger players who are going to make mistakes, and senior players not stepping up and supporting them.

Don’t think I’ve ever known a club where the assistants are so in demand for manager jobs. I’m sure it’ll be Justin Cochrane next.

That’s 2 games in a row now I’ve come away from spurs not just seeing a good performance, but seeing a team that undeniably looks well coached. Been at least 12 months since we’ve been able to say that.

Shape against Brentford was really good… now we have shape and rotations (inverted full backs are back!) Frank is rolling out all his layers in the space of a week.

Easily our best performance of the season. midfield balance was spot on, and there was a real direct threat left (Spence), right (kudus) and centre (Simons). Who could have guessed if you give the opposition a variety of problems, and have 3 mids happy to take the ball, you’ll look half decent.

Almost flawless first half from spurs. Movement through the team, options on the ball for the defenders, and 2 goals down my end. You do just feel like there’s a calamity around the corner 2nd half. Especially with this ref.

Off to spurs and I was going to say something profound about today either being the end of the beginning, or the beginning of the end for Frank - but let’s face it, anything other than a win today and the crowd will make sure it’s the end of the end for TF. No pressure then lads.

I know this is a minor spurs gripe, but their ticketing comms have completely disintegrated this season. They’ve just emailed me at 10am saying the ticketing window for buying a Dortmund ticket closes at 1pm today. 3 hours notice to buy a ticket. No wonder the grounds empty for CL this season.

This squad has barely a trace of character, but Romero (and Bergvall) stand miles apart from the rest. Warriors the pair of them. P.s. someone needs to investigate these decisions against us. Dodgy as hell.

There’s a fundamental problem with this approach from the players. Most of our fans have seen lots of players come and go over the decades. I imagine Frank will limp on to an inglorious end against Brentford next Saturday, but it just covers a group of poor technical players lacking any trace of character. There were moments when Porro was taking a throw 2nd half where the players would literally have hidden behind Frank if they could.

It’s difficult to imagine any manager surviving after such huge tactical errors in successive games, but the lack of character in these players is indescribable. Reminds me of spurs in the 90s again.

I wasn’t going to post at all today cos I knew it’d be bad. The strange thing is, on the opening day we started with Bergvall, Gray, Sarr in mid. 2nd game we went man-2-man with Man City and pressed them off the park. Frank can be brave, he just seems to have lost his nerve. He needs it back fast

Can’t remember the last time spurs had a 12.30 home game? Had to run back in and get my sunglasses. Imperative in the north stand for an early kick off on a clear day like today.

Obviously can’t learn anything when the opposition is that bad and didn’t even press us when we were down to 10. Hopefully lots of confidence for players who need it and a run for Xavi and Pape in the middle now.

First time a team hasn’t pressed us or filled the midfield since Burnley and it shows. Sarr and Bentancur winning the ball back aggressively….shame the front 4 have all the intensity of a crab, Simons couldn’t do much more. muani and oberbert continue to look like competition winners out there.

IMHO, Thomas Frank has correctly diagnosed what you need to do to compete in the EPL this season, but he’s got the wrong players (either due to injury or poor selection) to actually execute that plan. It’s gonna be a long season. We need to get used to it. There’s no Kane or Son to bail us out now.

Not much point in discussing spurs. The problems are many, but pretty obvious. However, that Chelsea team is perfect for where modern football is today. When the games become about 2nd + 3rd balls, and quick transition, every team needs their midfield 3 and set of wingers they have.

No crab of doom issues in the pass map this week. Kudus central, Xavi tucking in, Kolos movement, helped open up space through the lines. Obviously when we have Udogie and Cuti back (next week?) it will really help us improve passing and balance across the back line.

This spurs set up is still a work in progress and will be for all this season, but these away performances show a real attitude we’ve missed in recent years. Chelsea next week would be a good time to sort the home form!

As always, sensible and detailed analysis from Mo. He’s picked out what we’re all seeing. We can switch out one of the pivot, but it’s not suddenly going to make a huge difference. A long season beckons unless we get a lot more players fit, or find another passer in Jan.

My barometer for all these spurs disasters are always ‘there’s clearly problems, the managers job is to find solutions’. Poch was a master of flexibility when things went wrong. Conte infuriatingly stubborn. Ange couldn’t build and then adapt to situations. It’s up to Frank which road he chooses.

Both utterly grim and yet totally expected from spurs right now. Yet it’s decent point given the lineup we put out. Given we’re not going to get our best midfielders on the pitch for a while to progress the ball, Frank’s going to have to find another solution by changing the in possession shape.

Sometimes you look at the spurs line up, try and decipher whatever square pegs are going in the round holes and just think “sure, whatever. Good luck with that, Thomas”

That saw of xGing has been coming after the last few we’ve dished out to the opposition. In any sane world that would be the last we see of a Bentancur / Palhinha pivot…and yet I fully expect them to trudge out against Everton next week. Gonna be a long season.

Watching forest struggle is obviously the least surprising thing to anyone even casually interested in how the EPL has changed tactically in the last year. How a multiple club owner and experienced DoF in Edu couldn’t see what would happen is bizarre. Deserve what they get for blinkered arrogance.

Not sure Ange makes it through the break after this performance. They’re deeper than his spurs team were (in the league), but the space between the lines is still huge, the press is miles off, and Ange still clearly hasn’t heard of “transitions” which is pretty fatal for any EPL team now.

In ‘positive’ spurs news Yang Min-hyeok has scored for Portsmouth and it sounds like he’s having a storming game.

I don’t think we learnt much tonight, other than the need to get and keep our best players fit. We could have said that 20 times last season. But while we’re short of quality in the midfield we’ve just gotta get as many ‘runners’ on the field as possible - Udogie, Gray, Sarr, Berg, kudus, etc.

I admire Thomas Frank’s commitment to rotating the squad pretty evenly. Feels like there’s 16-17 players he’s happy to give significant minutes to. Whether that helps reduce injuries / win more games, is another matter altogether.

Depends on the length of the contract, but this is obviously a good move. Protect value of decent squad player in a World Cup year. Genuinely stunned to see people complaining here. Since we sacked Ange, there’s a section of Bluesky coys who just want to complain about everything spurs do.

This is the future of football! No one can pass the ball through the centre of the pitch, and the whole thing has become a dogfight for set pieces. It’s like the 80s and early 90s again!

I suspect there’s a lot of spurs fans on here who still aren’t watching anyone other than spurs and aren’t ready to accept that ‘this’ is just how football is now. Not really Frank’s fault, but he’s just gotta find the right solution (more players than shape).

Yeah, this! (Not spurs, but the EPL in general!) I’m not exactly sure what the answer is part from getting flying wingers on both sides and going in behind quickly. Suspect there’ll be a lot of away wins this season.

Obviously a real escape tonight. Football in general has become a bit of a mess in the last 12 months, but credit to the managers who have created that and tipped the balance against teams who want possession. Thought wolves were excellent on 2nd and 3rd balls tonight. We couldn’t handle it at all.

Not a fan of Xavi on the left. Feels like we’ll get bogged down in possession in our half and risk a turnover, but otherwise fair enough team. Need to be getting into wolves early and two wingers and Xavi central would be preferable.

I assume Gray is in midfield and palhinha is centre back tonight, which would definitely preferable to the other way round. Otherwise, much stronger lineup than I expected. Pray for Porro’s hamstrings.

The EPL has become so transitional even the guy (and his apprentice) who invented ‘boring everyone to death with controlled ball playing’, have decided to do pure hoof and defend for 90 mins.

I know I bang on about this a lot, but Udogie continually goes under the radar here for some reason. If he gets a run of games without injury we’ll be fighting off the really big clubs for him.
