I dunno how to put this nicely, but…the open firehose we love to build around is open season for collecting training data. Twitter and Reddit both locked down their APIs because of this (to make money on it themselves, tbf). We can’t complain about walled gardens and ask an open one to become one.

I totally understand why so many frameworks override the native fetch implementation. It's better for users 99% of the time, but lawds that last 1% can lead to absolute boondoggles.
