Inspiration can come from the most random places, like when I was riding my bike to work and had this blimp pass overhead. My thought process: I wish we had more blimps flying around. They’re so much cooler than planes. Like a future that never was.

Itinerates come from the polar cities. They travel the whole of Neuen, from Reisender settlement to settlement, for their three year long tour. They monitor the genomes of newborns and say who can and can’t have children together.

It must be fate. Just looked up where @easterconuk.bsky.social will be next year, and what do my eyes spy? Birmingham. The same city where my next novel, Blessed is the Rot, takes place (well 500 or so years from now, but still)!!

I got a flash of inspiration from a lovely view on a post-Fantasticon walk near the canal. Neon light ads meets European architecture? Perfection for the vibe of one of the books far down the line in my Alfom series (book 13?).

I remain astounded that some people think that co-writing with (or being assisted by) one of the worst "writers" I've encountered is actually going to make their story better. Ditch the "AI" and write it yourself. And if you can't manage that, at least stop sending them to me.

Oof, I made something awful happen to one of my MCs in my WIP, and I feel SO guilty. Like why am I such a jerk? They don’t deserve what I put them through, but it just kind of happened as I wrote. And once it had, I knew this needed to happen.

The Reisende are nomadic, living in on the day-night interface of Neuen. Their ancestors were exiled from the polar cities for committing the ultimate taboo—genetic engineering.
