When I was writing Nytho, LLMs (ChatGPT and its ilk) hadn’t yet taken off. I didn’t really know how believable it was for there to essentially be a cult that worships AGI, artificial general intelligences. But now, I can see that my intuition wasn’t far off.

I’ve spent the past 2.5 weeks working nonstop on book 3 of my trilogy while off work for the holidays. The goal was to wrap up draft 1 before heading back to the office on Wednesday. Well, as of about an hour ago, I did it! What a whirlwind.

No creative work exists in a vacuum, and while it can be tricky nailing down all the works that inspire mine, it’s fun to highlight the major contributors. For Blessed is the Rot, my inspiration mainly came from the video game Bloodborne and the novel A Canticle for Leibowitz.

One week to go and then Blessed is the Rot is out in the world! I can’t wait for this trilogy to get kicked off. Math as magic and a religion, a corrupt church, a man seeking redemption and a woman freedom. Science fiction, dark fantasy, cosmic horror, and a love story all in one.

If clergyfolk are the voice of the Church, Surveyors are its hand. Their role is critical in keeping the non-Euclidean at bay. Besides finding and then confining distortions, Surveyors are also responsible for dealing with the afflicted. They do this by providing a mercy killing.

Tillie is a dead-ringer for Sophie. The resemblance is so uncanny that Tillie’s likeness has become her livelihood. She may not have been born a high blood, but she excels at playing one.
