The premise of love and loss lured me in, but I admit I struggled with this book. The main characters—also the narrators of the story—were too self-absorbed and not really likable, and despite some beautifully emotional lines scattered throughout, the prose felt either stilted or broody in parts.

Working from a café and R.E.M.’s ‘It’s the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)’ just came on and if this isn’t a perfect description of what’s going on all around us, I don’t know what is. (The ‘I feel fine’ part is up for debate.)
