Kazuki Kaneshiro grew up in a Zainichi Korean household in Japan affiliated with North Korea; his family later opted for South Korean citizenship. He wrote Go, his only novel translated into English, in just two weeks. It won the Naoki Prize in 2000. Today, he's better known as a screenwriter.

Herbert Clyde Lewis is now being discovered by readers around the world for his 1937 classic, Gentleman Overboard. His 1941 novel, Season's Greetings, follows residents of Mrs. Fanjoy's Greenwich Village rooming house through the afternoon and evening of Christmas Eve 1940.
