Working today on stories of medieval Loughborough. Medieval Loughborough people would have kept livestock. Animals found wandering free would be taken to the local pound called the Pinfold until the owner came to collect them and paid a fine. Pinfold gate was the street that led to the Pinfold.

Great PSA. Leicestershire libraries also have loads of audiobooks (& ebooks) to choose from via Borrowbox - so useful, particularly if you can't get to the library. It's handy for magazine subscriptions too

156. Nanpantan, SW of Loughborough. The name is thought to come from ‘Pantain’, Anglo-Saxon for enclosure. The church’s War Memorial is a single block of Charnwood granite. Nearby Whittle Hill was known for ‘hone’ stones, used to sharpen knives; its quarry, opened in 1837, shut in the early C20th.
