#nature Took walk this morning into the woods. Weather is crisp and clear.

#birds I bought what I thought was sunflower hearts. Put some out in the feeders, but this morning it had not been touched. I saw I had bought Safflower seeds, and nobody liked it. Even the squirrels had left it alone! Took it back for more of the sunflower. Lesson learned!

🌱Yesterday it was balmy, and I cleaned up my Japanese iris. Today winter is back, windy and cold! I’m ready for my nap 😀

Finally had some some sun this morning, got out to trim shrubs. The juniper was tough, it had overgrown the drive by about 2 feet. The boxwood was shaped up. Still more to go! 🌱

I knew raccoons were washing their hands in this pot because I find the water muddy in the morning. In this video it looks like they are trying for a full bath. #nature

I found this on a walk today, it had blown out of a tree along with almost all the leaves. So intricately built! I am thinking it is a hummingbird nest. #nature #birds

Fritillary finds echinacea! Our park has a big wildflower garden, and I shot this pic there the other day. You can see some other colored flowers in the background. #insectThursday

I set my trail camera up on the hill by our house, in a spot that seems like a real crossroads. Lots of deer, but also got some fox video. He came back another night, rolled again in the same spot, and marked his territory. Looks like some big moths out there too. #nature

I am upgrading my feeders and birdbath. I am happy with this one: it’s easy to install, and metal so it won’t break. Now I need to clean up my iris. 🌱 #birds

These joro spider webs are nuts. This one extends from my roofline to shrubs. 12 feet at least. And 6 feet wide. Hope they leave bugs for the birds to eat.

My potted mums are starting to open. 🌱

A fox came by to investigate my driveway. #wildlife

This is a harmless hover fly, using camouflage to look like a bee or hornet. Pretty flashy! I#insect

Life list! I saw a group of Ruddy turnstones down on the beach. Really striking birds! Apparently they are stopping by on their way from the Canadian arctic to Central America. It was quite a pattern of color when they took off in unison. (Photo: Audubon) #Newfoundland #birds

Saturdays mean that the locals are taking their boats out to fish for cod. They bring them to the wharf and cut the fillets. The seagulls stand by for any scraps thrown their way. #Newfoundland

Another shot of the barrens. Unfortunately, climate change has hit Newfoundland and it is dry, still, and hot (for here). We are fighting forest fires and smoke. Staying indoors until that changes. #Newfoundland #Nature

We have had schools of capelin in the cove, and the seagulls have been going nuts. There have been minke whales as well, one pair I am pretty sure is a mother and offspring. You can hear them when they surface to breathe. (Not my photo, its stock) #Newfoundland #nature

#TinyFlowerTuesday I found this plant in an abandoned garden. I think it is some kind of alum root. Loved the red leaves and delicate flowers.

Blue hare bells are one of my favorite wildflowers. The stems are so small and the color so lovely. #Newfoundland

I took a walk over to the point and there were several savannah sparrows along the way. They like to get on top of the tree and warn me off, they sound like tsk tsk tsk. Here it is on the top of an evergreen, with the cove in the background. #birds #Newfoundland

I’ve had a painter in to work. Do you think I am too picky when I stopped him from using my table knife to hammer closed a paint can lid? Or from using the table knife as a screw driver? Then he borrowed my clean step stool and left it covered in plaster dust and paint drops. Ugh.
