I set my trail camera up on the hill by our house, in a spot that seems like a real crossroads. Lots of deer, but also got some fox video. He came back another night, rolled again in the same spot, and marked his territory. Looks like some big moths out there too. #nature

I am upgrading my feeders and birdbath. I am happy with this one: it’s easy to install, and metal so it won’t break. Now I need to clean up my iris. 🌱 #birds

These joro spider webs are nuts. This one extends from my roofline to shrubs. 12 feet at least. And 6 feet wide. Hope they leave bugs for the birds to eat.

Life list! I saw a group of Ruddy turnstones down on the beach. Really striking birds! Apparently they are stopping by on their way from the Canadian arctic to Central America. It was quite a pattern of color when they took off in unison. (Photo: Audubon) #Newfoundland #birds

Saturdays mean that the locals are taking their boats out to fish for cod. They bring them to the wharf and cut the fillets. The seagulls stand by for any scraps thrown their way. #Newfoundland

We have had schools of capelin in the cove, and the seagulls have been going nuts. There have been minke whales as well, one pair I am pretty sure is a mother and offspring. You can hear them when they surface to breathe. (Not my photo, its stock) #Newfoundland #nature

I took a walk over to the point and there were several savannah sparrows along the way. They like to get on top of the tree and warn me off, they sound like tsk tsk tsk. Here it is on the top of an evergreen, with the cove in the background. #birds #Newfoundland

I’ve had a painter in to work. Do you think I am too picky when I stopped him from using my table knife to hammer closed a paint can lid? Or from using the table knife as a screw driver? Then he borrowed my clean step stool and left it covered in plaster dust and paint drops. Ugh.

My flowering quince is thriving, even though it is planted just 50 feet or so from the ocean. It survives strong winds, winter storms, and sea spray. #Newfoundland #garden

Some good news for the environment! Historic land deal halts mine planned next to Georgia’s Okefenokee Swamp The Conservation Fund is buying land near the Okefenokee where a mine was planned, heading off a project many feared could irreparably damage North America’s largest blackwater swamp.
