Associated Press reports that Border Patrol officials will be in town through the weekend ahead of Operation Swamp Sweep. They are setting up a command site at the FBI Field Office and using the Naval Air Station for storage of vehicles, equipment, tear gas and pepper balls.

Jefferson Parish Schools, the school district with the largest Hispanic population in Louisiana, says new Homeland Security policies no longer restricts federal immigration agents from entering schools. The district says it will do everything it can to ensure student safety.

The Department of Homeland Security will deploy 250 federal immigration agents to Louisiana in a massive immigration enforcement operation according to the Associated Press. The New Orleans Police Department will hold a briefing with Border Patrol about the operation this week.

On WBOK, NOPD Chief Anne Kirkpatrick says she will soon be brief on Border Patrol deployment in New Orleans. Plans are still in the works but she stresses NOPD officers will not help arrest or identify immigrants.

Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries worked with federal immigration agents to arrest 10 oyster harvesters for immigration violations. Officials did not release any identities or what the violations were. The arrested were made on November 3 in both Terrebonne and St. Bernard Parishes.

ICE New Orleans arrested 25 undocumented Honduran workers for Barrois Welding Services, at a shipyard in Harvey, Louisiana. ICE said some of the workers had a criminal past - mainly for non-violent offenses. Officials have not released the workers’ identities.

ICE and Kenner Police arrested four undocumented immigrants outside Home Depot Thursday morning. ICE has not released the identities of the individuals, but authorities say some had prior convictions for DUI and traffic violations.

The Louisiana National Guard federally mobilized 95 troops to help ICE at several locations across the state. The troopers are helping the immigration enforcement agency with “administrative, clerical and logistical duties.”

In one of the largest ICE raids in Louisiana history, 84 workers at Delta Downs, a horse race track near Lake Charles, were arrested. Officials say the workers were hired illegally, mostly to tend to the stables. The race course is also under investigation for illegal hiring.

The city of Kenner canceled this year’s Hispanic Heritage Festival after growing concerns among the community over increased ICE presence. Kenner has the largest population of Hispanics in Louisiana with more than 20,000 making up 30% of the city’s population.

ICE arrested multiple workers at a construction site for a new fire station in Kenner this afternoon. Kenner Police helped in the raid. Officials haven’t said who was arrested and how many people were taken.

ICE agents arrested two hospital workers in Galliano, Louisiana. Officials say the workers are from Cuba and Mexico and overstayed their visas. ICE again did not release the arrestees identities ow where they are being held right now.
