Last night I pulled down my books on mythology for the first time since I moved. I only remember that one of my uncles gave them all to me when I was 12 and just getting into Percy Jackson. Finally reading them to learn about the Mesopotamian and Greek figures that I've placed in the Inferno

The circles work together in strange ways. Lust uses a Blender to grind up 🍇 ists and PDFfiles, and remains of these sinners is funneled into Gluttony to create "food" for the ghouls. Then the monsters that are created in Lust and Gluttony are smuggled into Greed to tear apart the sinners there.

Maggie's overwhelming empathy. It gets her into a lot of trouble, because...well she's in Hell. So she wants to help the people around her, and she also feels immense pain for the sinners' victims that she learns about while in the circles.

Roe is the one getting Maggie out of trouble. Not that she goes out of her way to cause or invite trouble, but say her car breaks down, Roe gets their oldest brother Micah to tow it. Maggie gets separated from Grannie in the Inferno, roe appears out of nowhere to guide her through to safety

I suppose God being the ruler of all makes it a monarchy. With the Seraphim as Their advisors, Cherubim Their guards, and Thrones as Their chariot and also pupils to learn the most about the universe. Yeshua/Jesus would be simultaneously the King of Kings, & the Prince who brings new laws to Earth

I've been trying to make Belial less overtly abusive, and more passive aggressive. He's like this with everyone: Maggie/Pazuzu/Asmodeus & Beezlebub. Some of it can be played for laughs, like when Roe destroys Gluttony and Belial tells Bee not to have friends over if they're going to break his toys

At first I was going to say that the witches in Limbo and the Satanists in Pandemonium self-govern, and don't really interact. But I think that there would be some form of delegation between the two by the time Maggie reaches the City of Dis. What with all the souls in hell being swapped willy nilly

I think for Maggie that would be a rock concert. Getting dressed up to see one of her favorite bands, going out to dinner with Roe, and then rocking out until midnight. And my favorite band right now is Ghost, and their show was AWESOME this summer, so in a perfect world, she also got to see Ghost 👻

Lucifer is the king of the Inferno. He's frozen at the bottom of the 9th circle. He's more of a figurehead, as Heaven still makes the laws for the horsemen to enforce. Even Satan has a castle but Lucifer is frozen from the waist down in the Cocytus lake. To say he's bitter is an understatement

Maggie's life and backstory is told in a series of hallucinations, nightmares, and occasionally truthful recollections. The readers experience each circle in detail with Maggie, so they get all the delicious torture right alongside her. The transitions are a lot more condensed.

This is Belial speaking to Maggie right before she enters Greed. Replacing metal with gold: "I wrote you a poem. I carved it upon obsidian tablets. And filled the etchings with gold foil. To feed your incapacity."

Maggie is pretty open-minded, and has become pretty good at reading someone as trustworthy before she can become too convinced to change for someone else. The flip side to this is she can also be overly cautious and avoid trustworthy people if she can't get a good read on them first.

Maggie and her partner Roe are both asexual and aromantic. They don't feel sexual or romantic attraction to anyone (not even each other) but they have a close personal relationship that is more than just friendship called a queer platonic relationship or QPR. Roe is also non-binary & uses they/them

Not a written law but sinners are supposed to be kept within their own circles, with no hope of escape. But now Charon is rerouting the River Acheron so that barrier is gone between the Gate & Limbo Minos was taken from his place between Limbo and Lust Cerberus is dead and being fed on in Gluttony

About as spicy as garlic Parmesan. No kissing other than Grannie kissing Maggie on the cheek or forehead. Roe and Maggie hug and hold hands. I would say the most "intimate" thing so far is when Pazuzu cradles Maggie so she can sleep after Gluttony explodes

The first thing that Grannie does when she sees Maggie in the Gate of Hell is give her a big hug and tell her it will all be alright. I'm kidding, first she scolded Maggie for believing she belonged in Hell and for not going to therapy

Well I already talked about how King Minos is the judge of the Inferno. I've decided that Belial has kidnapped him and plugged him into an interface. This interface allows a demon to possess several human beings at once. King Minos is plugged in next to Mammon, who has run out of space for cables

I'll just share that I managed to write 3-4 pages this morning before work and I'm very proud of myself for doing so!

Maggie's longest friendship is probably with Roe, but I feel like I talk about them a lot So I'm going to talk about Maggie's younger sister, Ana. She's 7 yrs younger than Maggie, and was a senior in highschool when she ☠️ They're half siblings, with different fathers.

Maggie is a musician, and if I ever figure out a way to write that into a story, she will express herself through writing songs. But I'm not a songwriter, I'm not really a poet, and it's becoming impossible to even write prose atm so....who knows what will become of this information

I think I write them to be super kind and loving, like with how Grannie and Roe dote on Maggie. But I'm also a glutton for body horror and revenge, so there's lots of scenes of Pazuzu and Roe going out of their way to get their hands bloody protecting her.

The laws are incredibly strict with harsh punishments to go along with transgressions. 🍇 And PDFfiles: destroyed in a massive Blender and spat back out to amalgamize into monsters The gluttonous: starvation, but if you pay for food, and consume the human flesh given to you, you transform into ghouls

To Maggie, everything feels like a chance encounter, but of course the Heavenly Choirs are pulling the strings on all of this. Grannie greets Maggie at the Gate of Hell and leads her on her journey. Pazuzu is flying around bored, and follows them to reclaim his honor (and fight Lamashtu) Roe

The court in the original Dante's Inferno (which I'm just now realizing, I haven't included this) is King Minos from Greek mythology. When the sinners step up to him, they are forced to confess their sins, and then he chucks the sinners into their appropriate circle of Hell.

Hell is mostly policed by the demons themselves, at least as far as keeping sinners in line. When Heaven realizes that souls are/have been going missing, that's when they start sending Archangels down to get the Kings of Hell in line. Maggie needing to go on a Faith journey is just happy coincidence

Isn't it hilarious that in order for Maggie to find a decent father figure in her life, she has to travel to hell & meet Pazuzu? He doesn't always say the right thing but his actions show how much he truly cares about these ungrateful humans. I have a heartwarming scene between him & Maggie planned

I think I might have a better answer. After all if God is all powerful, why wouldn't They change how the rules work while Maggie going into Hell on Their command? So for as long as Maggie is in Hell, on Purgatory, and in Heaven, one day on Earth will probably be one year for Maggie.

God makes the rules. But even They have advisors like Seraphim. Jesus came down to update the laws: "for you have heard it said...but I say to you". And Lot was able to talk to God to convince Them to spare Sodom if one good soul was found within. And no, the sin of Sodom was not homosexuality

Maggie, like myself is too non-confrontational to effectively bargain unless it's something like "this is $22“ "I have a 20" Pazuzu would be offended that you wouldn't just hand it over "you ingrates! I protect you from my ex-wife's plagues and this is the thanks I get? Full priced chocolate?!" 😂

I've gushed a lot about Maggie and Roe's queer platonic relationship. There is no romance in Hell is Under Construction, but plenty of platonic and familial love between Maggie and Grannie, and all the Heavenly and Infernal body guards they meet along the way 🥰
