my cataract surgery was freaky and overstimulating, but the staff were lovely and my anxiety behaved herself. i made dumb jokes in the or, as expected. and my surgeon once again commented “you really have astigmatism.” … i feel somehow proud that my wonky eye impressed a professional.

with the sound of the blood collection numbers being called downstairs, i can almost disassociate myself in to believing the day surgery waiting room is the airport. almost.

up and showered and dressed and ready to let people fuck about with my eye. eeep!

in hindsight (pun intended), choosing this week to focus on increasing my fibre intake might have been a bad decision. the nervous belly butterflies have started their rave and my digestive system is overstimulated. 😂

my period is 18 days late. i’m betting she will show up mid-cataract surgery on thursday morning. because she wants to be supportive. periiiiiiiimenoooooooopaaaaaaaause.

it’s a lovely day for a walk, except for the occasional gust of wind turning the icy snow on the trees into projectiles.

i kept hearing a weird noise while i was falling asleep last night ... far away fireworks? thunder? explosions? has he invaded? i finally figured out my new neighbours next door must play a video game where things get blown up. and now that i know what the noise is, my brain is cool with it.

a year and a half ago i took on a volunteer position that i should have declined ... but my annoying helpful people pleaser took over ... and tonight i am finally officially stepping down from that position. and the relief, my friends.

i wish i could hear cocoa’s thoughts when she prances through new snow. she’s just so happy when she does.

attended chamber of commerce breakfast. had a client meeting. instructed a 3 hour workshop. walked cocoa 3.5km. shovelled the driveway. that was a monday.

pickle ball sex scandal. a phrase i never knew existed.

a friend and i made our way through the snow to a chamber of commerce breakfast this morning ... it was about 30% capacity, but it was a nice room and there were mini waffles.

i feel for parents in the chignecto district … i don’t think kids in colchester county have had a week without a closure or delay since november.

cocoa saw a squirrel in the yard. she’s wondering if she will see the squirrel again. (oddly, this is the first time i’ve ever see a squirrel in my yard … it looks like she’s living in the tree, or has a stash in there.)

we attempted the park on our walk this morning, but it’s way too icy … so, we did our route backwards, and it was lovely. sunday mornings are so quiet in town and i enjoyed a different perspective. plus, the ice is open at civic square, so that block was feeling very stars hollow.

also, there is a small black scotty dog creature we’ve encountered a few times on our walks. fuck, that thing is filled with fury and freaks out at cocoa every time … today from across a wide street.

shout out to the muppet for choosing to poop on the decaying decapitated bird head on someone’s front lawn instead of trying to eat it. hashtag small blessings

and i’m bailing on the potluck because i don’t have the spoons to grocery shop for things i never buy and make a dish for it. (it’s mexican food themed, so, not as easy as just buying something. and no, i don’t need recipes … i just sent my regrets.)

i got really overwhelmed work-wise this week ... a couple of things i'd put off became un-put-off-able (not scary things ... just time consuming things) and made me all stressy ... but i was able to focus and get shit done today, and i'm feeling much better going into the weekend.

how did i become someone who considers almost 4km a short walk? (the answer is cocoa.)

spent part of my morning chatting with a lovely gentleman who is retiring from a career in law and business after 65 years. sixty five years! his advice? change is going to happen and you need to adapt to how things are and not hold on to how they were. which seems simple, but really hit home.

i’m in that detail anxiety phase of my cataract surgery … triggered by my dental cleaning this morning. like, do i get to wear my comfy clothes or will i be in a gown? is there music playing in the room? can i wear an earphone if not? i need to pre-plan my disassociation.

they’re training a gaggle of service dogs at the truro mall and the good boy/girl vibes are high!

off to the dentist this morning ... time for my biannual lie about how much i floss.

it was a much better day for a walk today. and we met one of the two doggies who moved in next door on the weekend … bruce the bernese-type creature seems lovely, and he has a little brother named doug. i have no recollection of their owner’s name because my brain only cares about dogs.

it’s very, very windy. but i have a happy pup who got to catch up on all the sniffs she missed out on yesterday.

i'm doing a microcredit course over the next few weeks and the modules are all powerpoints with no audio. i assumed they would be recorded lectures that i could listen to, then go back and rewatch. ugh.

we didn’t even make it down the street on our walk this morning … i almost wiped out twice from ice under the snow, and gave up. thankfully, cocoa seemed to understand that i was upset (the last slip hurt) and didn’t protest. i’ll be buying some spikes for my boots this week, i think.

i’ve had a post breech the perimeter again. people seem to like a photo of lepper brook in the winter. 🤷‍♀️

as we near 3 months together, cocoa has gotten more snuggly. she’s definitely a girl who likes her own space, but she’s curling up with me on the couch more … and not just when she wants scritches. 💛

i hope my cataract surgery will make me less vampire-like. i do love a sunny day, but even with my sunglasses on, the sun plus the wet pavement and the reflection on the cars was too much during our walk. now i have the curtains drawn like a creature of the darkness.

and now danny concannon. you literally can’t have a crush on any character ever again because the actor will turn out to be horrible.

it’s 5:10pm and it’s not totally dark outside.

today’s walk was a bit tricky … while most of it was good, for our last kilometre or so, the sidewalk was so icy. so, we stopped to look at the brook so i could unclench for a minute and throw away a poop bag, and it was pretty.

the cruddiness of february is made better by the fact that it is a calendarly perfect month. 4 full weeks and it starts on sunday and ends on saturday. and that scratches an itch in my brain.

adding mexican hot chocolate mix to coffee is not great. boo.

my dog is a mop. my town is her puddle.

and i just used the last drop of the last bottle of my holidays peppermint mocha creamer supply. booo.

did i just email my accountant about q4 before he emailed me about q4? why yes, yes i did. finally having a handle on my business financials after a few years of not is such a relief.
