The A.O. Gimmestad Land Office is a historic building in Belview, MN. A rare example of a building from the 1860’s in nearly original condition. These small towns were booming during this time following the Homestead Act. A link to another era. #detourminnesota #minnesotahistory #smalltownminnesota

Here is a closer up view of what’s left of the house that I posted about in the previous post. Imagine the work that went into this place! Making “detours” is definitely worth it!

This home was the first home built of quarried granite in the Minnesota River Valley. It’s a 3 1/2 story, 19 rm house built in 1861-62 for Joseph R. Brown and Susan Frenier Brown & their family. The house was short lived as it was burned down in August of 1862 during the U.S. - Dakota War of 1862.

Foley Bros. started out as a railroad contract track-laying company. In the late 1880s they made a big pivot into wholesale groceries, with brands such as Fort Snelling Brand; and Gopher Brand Pure Food Products. This image is hanging in the exhibit at Becketwood Cooperative in Minneapolis.

Last night’s Sunset. One of my favorite spots nearby. It’s often a great Sunset spot, and tonight was no exception.

I kicked off my speaking tour yesterday and had a wonderful time. There were over 40 people attending, and they really enjoyed it, so that is great!

February 22nd, I marked three years since my published book landed on my doorstep. It was a project that started with an idea in the Spring of 2020; a book deal in June; many trips to the Twin Cities; lots of research & writing - and, I became a first time author! It’s never too late.

I had the opportunity to present my, “A Road Trip Around Minnesota: Barn Quilt Trails” presentation in Arden Hills to about 40 people this morning (-14F when I left the house.) There were even several people watching via Zoom. The space was an addition built on to a One Room School House.

One of the cornerstones of my business is organizing and leading photography workshops. This scene took place near the Badlands in South Dakota. This particular event was called, “Dakota Adventure: Badlands.” I am working on my line up for 2025; excited to see what happens!
