I am going through my photographs of many visits to Devon. So, Dartmoor walks

A very moving visit to see the AIDs Quilt at The Tate Modern. One of the saddest is this. The Parents do not want this chaps quilt seen, they can't cope with the shame. I was trying to think of a way it could be uncovered covertly.

I started a series called 'The Age that dare not speak it's name' about how older men can be as atractive and sensuous as younger men. Flickr classed this as restricted meaning I had to pay. I decided to dump Flickr and make my own site. Oh btw, both men in the picture are the same person.

Some years ago when my friend John was working in a second hand book shop, a chap came in one day said he was an artist and asked if John who sit for him. I later met the artist, whose name it turns out is Chen Danqing and he asked me to sit for him too with my puppet Mr Potter.

Now retired, I was for many years a puppeteer with my own company 'On The Other Hand'. My last production was Peter and the Wolf. One of the high points was getting a grant to tour children's hospitals and hospices.

I made a Diorama for my good friend Frank from his photo of him and his dog Rex, now sadly gone. It took quite a few hours with many versions to get it right. The man at the Post Office asked "what's the value". I said it was something I had made. He said "Then put it down as no value". Oh well.

The importance of closeness

Many years ago, I was helping a charity event when The New York City Gay Men's Chorus came to London. We got chatting to Terry who turned out to be Mary Tyler Moore's PA. It turned out that not only did she have the same breed as our dog, but they were related.

I have been very fortunate in having friends who have had the patience to model for me, while I trying out lighting techniques etc. This is Owen, who has been excellent.

For many years I was the plant operator in Little shop of Horrors. Apart from financially rewarding, it kept me slim .

Being a photographer chappie now I am retired, this is my entry to The Ruth Borchard Self Portrait Prize. I was a puppeteer for many years, so this is me coming out of the shadows to have a cup of tea.
