Tis the season of rest and recharge

I had a weird relationship with social media last year where I craved it a lot, yet largely did not find it fulfilling to use. I think my solution is to try to be more give than take — replacing mindless use with actually engaging with people and integrating into communities/discussions.

One of my design goals for next year is to get back into the mindset of my teenager design self again. I feel like I’ve lost the whimsy of doing little side projects and completely theoretical proposals that are just for fun. Also known as the reason I fell in love with design in the first place.

Never realized how much I abbreviate (Adobe) Illustrator as ‘AI’ until Artificial Intelligence stole the acronym.

I’m in a perpetual state of not being able to update my iPhone because it needs 20GB, which is 1/3rd of my storage and is definitely not available.

For those of you that feel well-integrated into Bluesky, how did you start to find ‘your people’? Feeds? Hashtags? Discover? Search? Starter packs (if those still exist?)?

My favourite part of streaming services is when you watch an episode that’s supposed to leave you pondering, but then within 0.2s of going back to the menu you get blasted with as many spoilers as possible.

AI itself isn’t the problem. The problem is the stuffing of AI into every facet of our lives, the indiscriminate wielding of it against messy human problems, the band-aiding over inherent and sometimes unsolvable complexity - and all of this with a distinct lack of interrogation into consequences.

I still think that complaining about "AI" is kind of the same as complaining about "technology". There are no shortage of extremely valid critiques, but we are grouping a looooooot of things under one umbrella here.

I miss Twitter a ton still to be honest. It was just such a genuine community feel that I haven't even got close to elsewhere.

I think business communications and education are 2 places where AI highlights broader 'problems'. If one person uses AI to make something verbose, and another to distill it... we can cut the formalities. Likewise, AI in school shows how much we value results rather than actual learning outcomes.

If I could choose one show to have infinite more episodes of with the same vibes/characters, it would be Ted Lasso. What you got?
