The council have now opened this route. Thank you to those in the council and @mikecookson.bsky.social for getting this fixed. The signs are still in place but can be ignored. Let us know if you see issues like this wherever you cycle. It can be fixed!

Still no update on this unfortunately. Some Cyclists dismount signs have been quickly put up. This is discriminatory to those with mobility cycles and blocks larger cargo bikes. A safe diversion needs to be in place or the fencing moved.

The route into Shieldfield has been blocked today by Newcastle Council. We have contacted them as there is no notice of a road closure that we can see.

Make sure to head out to the coast over the next couple of days to celebrate the completion of the Seafront Sustainable route!

The removal of a protected cycle lane on Gosforth High Street, and subsequent northbound bus lane resulted in an average reduction in journey times in the pm peak of 1.73 minutes. Getting across the High Street on foot in the pm peak (a distance of 10m) has a maximum wait of 2.17 minutes.

Tonight on the school run: - I bumped into someone I know through football and work, and we chatted - my son bumped into a friend at a park and mucked about a bit - he then bumped into another friend at the other park then played football None of this would have happened had we driven. 1/2

1. Our annual blog of #Newcastle road traffic collisions is not good news: 10 fatalities last year. This is the highest since 2018 & more than N Tyneside, S Tyneside & Gateshead combined. This included 4 pedestrians, 4 car occupants, a motorcyclist and a pedal cyclist. 2 victims were children.

A very clear response from London Fire Commissioner, Andy Rowe to a question at Fire Plenary last week from Emma Best AM about the impact of LTNs on fire brigade attendance times. "We genuinely couldn't find any evidence of LTNs doing anything to our overall attendance times".
