As of October 2025, more than a decade into Russia’s war against Ukraine, at least 263 members of Ukraine’s literary community — writers, translators, scholars, and others — have been killed by Russian forces. The figures were reported at the Ukrainian stand at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

Yuriy Tarnawsky, a Ukrainian-American writer, translator, and one of the founding members of the New York Group of Ukrainian avant-garde authors, has passed away at the age of 91 on Oct. 14, 2025, according to his wife Karina.

Magdalena Sodomkova is a Czech journalist and a non-fiction writer. She is well known for her project “Mathematics of Crime” – a true-crime podcast and book – which reveals a series of mistakes in the Czech jury system that have caused unjust convictions.

Out of 452 aerial attack weapons launched overnight, one struck and damaged Kyiv’s Skovoroda Library between June 5 and 6. The building’s facade was damaged by the strike, and the explosion shattered its windows. Skovoroda Library has been operating since 1946.
