Commissioners who hate the land use plan and think it should be tied to sewer … that’s exactly what it does. It restricts density to places where there’s sewer. Let‘s be real here, they really just hate apartments. Problem is, it’s incredibly expensive to run sewer to single family neighborhoods.

It‘s kind of wild that commissioners don’t know how much money they’re spending on sewer maintenance considering the public utilities budget is basically the same size as everything else the city does put together. But it’s not funded by property taxes, so maybe they don’t care?

The solution, obviously, is to coat bullets in vaccines

Hearing that the land swap for the student housing complex (which includes $$ for affordable housing and other goodies) will be put off BUT they’ll have a work session next week and go ahead and send it to planning, so it won’t be delayed long.

As of 2 p.m, Athens had 5,625 Election Day voters, plus 7,254 in-person early voters. That alone is a 19% turnout rate. Not bad for an obscure off-year election with no municipal races on the ballot.
