Spring 2026 – Day 54 of Bird Ringing The wind picked up, and the number of birds ringed dropped. A total of 34 birds were ringed across 9 sps. Spotted Flycatcher was the most abundant. Surprisingly, we also had a late Woodchat Shrike, which should already be at its breeding site. Daily totals:

pring 2026 – Day 48 of Bird Ringing Low visibility and heavy cloud cover today, which is not typical for this time of year. Nevertheless, we managed to ring 65 birds across 17 species. Not every day you have Bee-eaters as the most abundant species at the ringing table, but today was such a day.

Spring 2026 – Day 43 of Bird Ringing Low clouds today led to high numbers in the nets. In total, 218 birds were caught across 20 species. The Garden Warbler is clearly peaking, comprising more than half of all birds ringed.

Spring 2026 – Day 33 of Bird Ringing North east winds were not helping our efforts, but nevertheless we managed to ring almost 90 birds across 23 species. Whitethroats were the most abundant, but the bird of the day was the Great Snipe—a species we have not seen at close range for many years.

Spring 2026 – Day 31 of Bird Ringing Spring weather once again, with virtually no wind, resulted in a total of 125 birds across 25 species. The day started strongly with a daily record of 9 Nightjars. The most abundant species was the Collared Flycatcher.

Spring 2026 – Day 27 of Bird Ringing The northerly winds and morning rain brought birds, and we managed to ring 266 birds across 26 species.

A sudden change in the weather resulted in fewer birds today. Just under 70 birds were recorded across 21 spp. The Garden Warbler migration is building, and it remains the most abundant species.

Spring 2026 – Day 25 of Bird Ringing Just over 100 birds across 29 species were recorded today. Nightjars and Cuckoos are still present, while Pied Flycatchers and Tree Pipits remain the most abundant.

Spring 2026 – Day 24 of Bird Ringing A good start, with four Nightjars and a Scops Owl in the first net round. After that, the wind picked up, but we still managed to ring 120 birds across 27 species.

Spring 2026 – Day 23 of Bird Ringing Winds dropped, and we resumed our ringing activities, recording a total of 156 birds across 29 species. Tree Pipits and Pied Flycatchers were the most abundant, followed by Wood Warblers.

Spring 2026 – Day 21 & 22 of Bird Ringing Yesterday, our ringing sessions were interrupted by strong winds, which are still persisting today. During our short session, however, we had the joy of ringing our first Golden Oriole and another Ortolan Bunting!

Spring 2026 – Day 20 of Bird Ringing Winds strengthened today, resulting in fewer birds ringed. Daily totals reached 82 birds across 19 species. The Tree Pipit was the most abundant species, followed by the Woodchat Shrike.

Spring 2026 – Day 19 of bird ringing Another busy day, with just over 240 birds ringed across 28 sps. Tree Pipits were the most abundant species. There was also a good passage of Turtle Doves, with four birds ringed.

Spring 2026 – Day #15 of bird ringing The first really busy day of the season, with just under 300 birds recorded across 22 species. The most abundant species was the Tree Pipit, which alone made up almost one third of all birds, setting a seasonal record.
