Nuffield Trust has published a new report sharing insights from 9 countries across the world where assisted dying has been introduced. The report finds that safe and effective implementation will require substantial planning, infrastructure and funding. All of which are scarce in today's NHS. ⬇️

Today Scottish Labour pledged to increase funding for Scotland’s hospice sector. Toby Porter, CEO of Hospice UK said: “We strongly welcome this commitment… This pledge comes at a crucial time, with a growing need for palliative care and increasing pressure on hospitals.”

St David’s Hospice in Wales has announced that four in-patient beds will close temporarily from October, with the decision being reviewed after a year. Short-term funding for hospices isn’t enough. As Hospice UK CEO Toby Porter says, we need urgent, long-term funding to protect end of life care.
