They Were So Afraid, They Erased the Words. Yesterday, I spoke truth about what happened in North Carolina. About democracy being stolen in broad daylight. About rigged maps and broken promises. About betraying every sacrifice ever made for the right to vote. Then something extraordinary happened.

It feels like just yesterday I was driving 10 mph under the speed limit home from the hospital. Those sleepless nights, wobbly first steps across our living room floor. And here we are. Jack walking confidently into second grade, Charlotte clutching her kindergarten lunchbox with pure excitement.

Today, as news of President Biden’s cancer diagnosis reaches across our nation, I find myself not just as a State Senator from North Carolina, but as a parent, a citizen, and someone whose life has been personally touched by his compassion and leadership.

The Trump administration's "unwavering support" for Western NC has mysteriously wavered. Who could have predicted that big promises during photo ops wouldn't translate to actual help? Our communities are still waiting for that legendary "best disaster response ever."

History teaches us valuable lessons if we're willing to listen. Today I led Senate Democrats in urging our Congressional Delegation to act against the global tariffs. Nearly 100 years ago, Republican lawmakers championed the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, promising it would protect American workers.

Today our community laid to rest a true hero - Officer Michael Horan of the Greensboro Police Department. In the solemn moments of final salutes and grieving hearts, we were reminded of the extraordinary dedication it takes to protect and serve our communities.
