I've just discovered the comedy duo Flo & Joan. My god. So funny! And so clever!

All caught up on the last of my odd jobs before the end of the year. Kind of relieved to have a few quiet days with no obligations to worry about, to be honest. The last couple of months have been a bit of a slog. So it'll be nice to get back to just doing some things for myself for a bit.

And nothing of value was lost.

I spent AGES this morning designing stuff for future videos. It's been a TERRIBLE year for getting anything meaningfully done, but things seem to be slotting in place to deliver some real labour-of-love style content in 2026. I definitely get to walk away from the PC feeling tired but happy today.

I just love it when I get messages from people that say 'I need this thing. Do it for me.' How about you say try saying 'please' and actually asking for it?

My eternal bugbear, to this very day: Applying EQ to music and getting it where I want it? EASY! EQing a full podcast? Agonizing hours of work, self doubt, trial and error and more than a bit of risk of nervous breakdown.

I picked up a copy of the new #AlienRPG cinematic adventure 'Rapture Protocol' by Tomas Harenstam and Jonathan Hicks. Spent my tea breaks today leafing through it and examining the contents. This is SOLID. Some absolutely great ideas in here. Gonna have to run this sometime...

On a good day, producing an actual play show makes me feel like a legendary film maker. Things slot into place. You see all the little embellishments elevating the quality of the whole thing. The final product knits together neatly in the edit. It makes up for the days where l feel like Ed Wood.

I really wish Bluesky had an option to schedule posts. That feels like a bit of an oversight.

I've had a rubbish situation hanging over me for a few weeks that feels like it's been sapping all my creative energy. Just got word today that it's all been resolved. So... I guess it's time to get back to making a kick-arse TTRPG show!

I've been bleeding money left and right just lately, so I figured I'd go all in and buy the stuff I need for work sooner rather than later. Got a KILLER deal on a Philips 27" monitor. It's CRAZY how much a bigger screen makes things more comfortable to do.

Woo. So. Guess which genius borked his ancient install of Photoshop by uninstalling the software for his old, dead scanner? Looks like it's functional enough for me to keep using it for work, but I'll have to do some techy magic to get it working properly again. So annoying.

🧵Well, here's a little story about how things are currently going over here. Some folks are still occasionally asking me about Doomed Colonist, and wondering when there'll be new stuff. We've hit a BAZILLION roadblocks, and we're way off target. But we ain't dead, and I'm still editing stuff.

I'm going the wringer a little bit at the moment. Nothing I can't get past, but it's not much fun being right in the middle of it right now. I had a chance earlier today to sit down and work out an ambient guitar set-up. This kind of thing helps me to clear my brain. Lots of joy to be had here.

Awright, more fun post, lest I come off as self-pitying: I just had cause to move some stuff around to make a bit of space. This is my bass guitar. It is an awesome bass guitar. The best I've ever owned. Sounds great for slapping. Plays like butter. I love it to bits.

I gotta say... being knee deep in tech stuff really sucks when what you want to do is crack on and get your internet show done. I am very much stuck in the 'whack-a-mole' troubleshooting stage of getting this new PC set-up ready to go.

Well, that's my entire morning completely taken up with Windows 11 upgrades and other computer tech issues. I will say this heartily: FUCK MICROSOFT. The hassle their antics have put me to this morning feels like it's taken years off me. My next PC's definitely going to be running Linux.

Had a really long, fun chat this afternoon with a guitar repair guy. Really came as a surpise. But I can't stress this enough - when you meet folks who take an artisan's approach to their work, it's inspiring. Far better than simply being told "cosmetic repairs? That'll be sixty quid, guv."

Today brought me news that Rush are touring again next year - with an INCREDIBLE drummer - AND a new trailer for Predator: Badlands. Sometimes the clouds part and little rays of sunshine poke through.

Aaaaand that's all my video editing jobs for the weekend done. Time to kick back with a beer, find something to watch for a bit, and wait for a Chinese takeaway to appear.

I've been editing in Davinci Resolve now for maybe 3 years, I think. Gotta say, I'm always impressed by the fact that any problem I run into with an edit can usually be fixed with one of the app's built in tools. But my god, when Resolve bugs out, it's INFURIATING.

Folks, don't do this to people. Retail staff are doing a thankless task, and you benefit from them being there whether you realise it or not. If you think it's acceptable to treat people like this, you've failed at life in the most basic way.

You know what the worst thing about AI generated images is? They've completely RUINED the market for my paintings of people with six fingers. I had a unique selling point, and Big Tech took it away from me overnight!

New PC has arrived and proved a ROYAL pain to get up and running properly. There are some really stupid issue sin setting up a new Win 11 machine, not helped by the folks I bought it from failing to provide basic info in a direct fashion. Still, it's all working properly now.

Buying a new PC in 2025 is a totally stress free undertaking. No cause for alarm at all. Very easy. Money is overrated anyway, right? Who needs savings? If anyone needs me, I'll be over here crying uncontrollably and researching whether a man can live on nothing but block noodles for a year.

Just switched off the PC after a very enjoyable afternoon spent editing. This stuff really is much more fun when you don't feel like the tools are fighting against you. I'm having a ton of fun with the sound design for this latest campaign.

1/2 Having one of those mornings where I'm quite pleasantly surprised with how the videos I'm working on are turning out. I've had all manner of setbacks and hit every bump in the road imaginable. It seems like every time I think I'm ready to start sharing things, a new problem arises. BUT...

Big pitch went in the Doomed Colonist contributors' Discord last night for something that ought to be fun if it gets off the ground. Here's where I sit back and wait to see what folks make of it. (But not for too long, because I have more of our stuff to edit!)

Well, this morning I learned that noise gates are really not all their cracked up to be for recording podcast audio. It seems like unless you REALLY know what you're doing with them, they introduce audio issues like pops and clicks where you don't want them. That's annoying.

I stayed up late to watch the finale of Alien: Earth. That was a bit of a middling finale, in my opinion. But it did what a season ending should do - namely, pose some questions, dish out some character information and seed some possibilities for where a follow up season might go.

Jeff is a SUPERB source of news and honest, critical opinion. If you're not watching him, you're missing out. And dang it, he's found another game for me to check out!

I've been feeling properly sluggish for the last couple of weeks. But somehow today I managed to record and fully process a 17 minute podcast. That'll go up when game sessions start appearing. And we're not far off from that at all now. I have one edit to finish first.

I'm late to the party with this one, but tonight I managed to get the first two episodes of Alien: Earth watched. Digging it so far. I'm well aware of the criticisms folks have of the show, and all I can say is, this has made me thankful that I'm not so hyper-focused on it that I can't enjoy it.

Today was supposed to be a super productive day for getting things done for the show. So OF COURSE I have to go and put my back out. Spent most of this morning and this afternoon laid out flat staring at the ceiling. I'll see if I can get cracking properly after dinner.
